I just got Platinum... Hurrah!
This is the road I took.
I completed all 3 campaigns on medium on my alone, doing all the bonus objectives (although I did miss the vindicator one on the second allies mission so I had to restart it. Saw it right as the "Victorius" screen came up so it wasn't that bad.) as I went.
Then I started doing all 3 sides on hard, and it was an interesting hard mode, typically the only difference on hard mode if past C&C's are anything to go by, is that the enemy has a few more units (which they did) and you start with less credits (which you do) and you have tighter time limits on some missions (which you do), but with this one, I noticed a few other things, one very noticable thing was on that mission where you have to chronosphere your MVC over to the other side of the map following the Rising Sun fireing 2 superweapons at you... On medium, if you capture their superweapons... you can then use it... on hard mode you cannot.
And yes the computer AI gradually became very thick as the game neared the end, in the Hollywood level... the co-op player decided to build a navy consisting of two battleships and an armada of those mini subs... despite there being no naval threat on that map...
The only main challenge on hard was the final mission of the allies, only because he co-op won't stop building vindicators and targeting utter rubbish... it fails to realise that because I've taken out the power plants it doesn't need to bomb the tesla coils! Fortunately, if you tell the co-op to destroy the iron curtains... for some reason they go down very quickly indeed.
I started to co-op with Critical_Sin as I was doing hard mode, we started off playing the game on a medium setting, but we had a lot of problems with disconnections when it came to the final 3 missions on every side. We had the last 3 Allies to do and from mission 4-9 on Rising sun to do. We changed our difficulty to easy, simply because it would make the game more stable as the enemy AI would not be producing more units and would not resort to using many units that had special effects that cause a lot of problems for connections. On easy... co-op mode can be done blindfolded and yes according to Sin you can get the bonus objective trophies on easy. And I can confirm that doing co-op on easy will get you the co-op trophies too.
So whilst all that was going on I was trying to get all the skirmish trophies, some were easier than others, but again, once you figure out the enemy AI, it's a very easy set of trophies... only they do take their time.
Hell March was the last trophy I unlocked and there was something that was a bit odd, it wouldn't unlock until I had completed the maps which I downloaded... now the trophy title does state that it'll unlock if you play the original maps... Yet I had to play the downloaded ones too... how odd...
So overal, I'm happy that I've got platinum, it's a great game and considering my desire to play every map that comes with a C&C game against every side and the like, even if this game had no trophies I would still have put in all the time that I had.
So yeah... anyone else ready to join the platinum club for RA3?
Edit: Also something for people to consider... the present advice for people who are simply just in it for the trophies, is to do a co-op on hard... I would actually advise against this. Just because it takes longer. doing a co-op on hard will take you a much longer time to complete than if you do it on hard alone and then do the co-op on easy with a buddy. When you take into consideration that your buddy won't be there as often as you, and the odd disconnection, easy mode is your magic bullet to get those 3 trophies over and done with. Also easy mode will still unlock the bonus objectives trophies too.
