Synopsis

Need For Speed: SHIFT was developed by Slightly Mad Studios in collaboration with Black Box and senior vice president Patrick Soderlund at EA Games Europe. Need For Speed: SHIFT takes you in a completely different direction to previous NFS titles. You are taken from the 'anything goes' street racing scene to the intense closed circuit racing simulation. The game features nineteen tracks including some circuit favorites, such as Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, Nurburgring Nordschleife, Road America, Spa, Silverstone, Willow Springs, Donington Park & Brands Hatch. There are more than sixty cars to fly round these awesome tracks ranging from a Audi S4 to a Bugatti Veyron, all perfectly captured to represent their real life counterpart.

This is the first trophy you will earn upon starting your career. Its obtained by completing the pre-race event that decides the most suitable driver settings for your abillity.

Win your first event
After completing the pre-race event and watching the intro that follows, you will buy your first car with the available cash. I chose to buy the ford focus as it seemed to have the best stats to start with. Now you have your car you are entered in to your first event. Win this race and you will get the much sought after *ping*.

Reach Tier 2
Whilst racing through your career, you have the opportunity to earn stars. Most races have 6 stars available, three are position based, two are point based and one is challenge based. Some events have less stars available.

To unlock tier 2 you will need to earn 30 stars in tier 1, of which there are 45 available.

There are 255 stars available in tier 2, to unlock tier 3 you will need a total of 80 stars.

NFS Live World Champion
Win the NFS Live World Championship
You will need a total of 280 stars to unlock the NFS Live World Championship. There are two series events and one sigle race event, win these and the trophy is yours.

I went straight from tier 2 to the NFS Live World Championship, i used the tier 2 porsche cayman s fully upgraded and won these events easily (not advised for everyone as my friend couldn't do it in that car). Doing it this way i never ran short of money to buy much needed vehicles.

Driving Rookie
Reach Driver Level 2
Whilst progressing through your career you will earn profile points. There are two categories of profile points, they are Precision and Aggression. Your overall aim being to earn as many as possible to raise your driver level, which you can view in the driver profile. There are 50 levels to achieve. You will no doubt earn level 50 by the end of your career, but if you dont want to wait there are ways to farm points. One method is to use an endurance race in tier 3, start the race fight your way to first place then pull over and let every one pass you again, repeat the process till the end of the 10 laps. When done you should have a hell of a lot of profile points built up, it will also help towards a few of the epic badges.

You will need 2,000 profile points to reach level 2, as reward you will get $15,000 in sponsorships and a new invitational event

You will need 8,000 profile points to reach level 5, as reward you will two extra garage slots and stripes vinyl category.

Once you reach level 50 your profile points continue to go up, but your driver level will stay as is.

Bronze Earner
Earn 5 Bronze Badges
During the game you will earn badges for completing objectives. The objectives are broke into four categories, track, race, career and online. Each section has a set number of minor badges, once all the minor badges in the section have been obtained you are awarded the epic badge for that section.

To earn your bronze badge you will have to complete approximately 25% of the minor badges in each section. Do this in five sections and the trophy is yours.

Earn 25% of the minor badges in 10 badge sections. Make sure to read through the requirements needed for the minor badges so you can aim for them while racing through your career, but dont worry if you dont pick them up in the career as they are all achievable in quickrace and online.

Earn 25% of minor badges in 20 badge sections. Depending on how you play your game this can become a lil dificult for some, if you dont play online you can still earn 20 badges as i did. But, this requires a little bit of skill in the game because you will have to complete badges like master all corners. If you want to make the game a bit easier you can skip some of the offline badges and boost the online badges with someone.

Achieve all Stars in the Exotic World Tour
Whilst playing the exotic world tour there are 6 stars to earn on each race, three are position based, two are point based and one is challenge based. There are five races to work through, and you need to collect all stars on every race to unlock this trophy. The stars can be earned over multiple attempts.

Epic Badge Guide


The badges as mentioned above are broke into four catigories, there are 27 available epic badges and you only need 20 so you can leave out a few you dont want to do.

Track Badges - There are 69 minor and 6 epic badges to collect in this category.

  1. Clean Race-Europe Tracks
  2. Clean Race-Japan Tracks
  3. Clean Race-US Tracks
Complete one race on each track, placing 3rd or better-avoid car
collisions and driving off track.

Tip - If you are struggling with this go to quickrace, choose which every track you dont have the minor badge for (this can be checked in the driver profile screen press square to view the master badges), put it on 0 opponents and 1 lap. Choose a slow car and slowly drive round the track, you have no opponents so you will always come first which means the only thing you have to worry about is going off track.
  1. Europe Corner Master
  2. Japan Corner Master
  3. US Corner Master
Master all the corners on each track

Tip - You should have mastered quite a few corners by the end of your career, but for the ones that are left after your career use quickrace. Again choose your track, 0 opponents and 1 lap. Choosing a slow car is important as the speed required when exiting is lower, and the slower cars are more stable when keeping speed. When driving the track it is best to keep to the driving line at all times. The only corner i had trouble with was the last corner on Nordschleife Karusell, i finally managed to get it by using the Stock Audi S4, put the driving difficulty on experienced and turn all driving aids off ie. traction control and ABS. After switching to these settings i got it after 2 attempts.


Race Badges - There are 68 minor and 6 epic badges to collect in this category.

  1. Trading Paint
Trade Paint with opponents, by hitting their car.

Tip - This one is very easy to pick up, you start in last place in all races so as you pass each car make a little contact with them. It dosent take much to be awarded the trading paint bonus. You should have this well before the end of your career.
  1. Clean Overtake
Pass opponents without making any contact.

Tip - Again you start in last place in each race, just make sure as you pass each car to leave a good gap between you and your opponent. You should have this well before the end of your career.
  1. Dirty Overtake
Make contact with your opponents as you force your way past them.

Tip - To get these minor badges it takes a bit more than it does for trading, when you make contact with other vehicles you should aim to spin the opponent, knock them off there racing line or just completely off track. Again you should have this done by the end of your career.
  1. Drafting
Get close enough behind your opponent to reduce wind drag on your car.

Tip - Every time you have cars ahead of you, follow there racing line, you will get a draft bonus as soon as the drag is reduced. So once you get the bonus for the car ahead accelerate past it and move onto the next one. You should have this by the end of your career.
  1. Perfect Launch
Start the race at the perfect RPM.

Tip - This is very simple! At the start of every race whilst waiting for the lights to hit green, gently pull the accelerator a fraction of the way in. You will see the HUD's gear indicator turn green when you have the perfect RPM, hold it there till the races starts and you will receive a launch bonus saying either "perfect launch" or "great launch". They both count towards the minor badges so dont do what i did and restart when you get "great launch". If you do this from the very first race, you should have it by the time you finish your career but if not you should get it by the end of mastering the corners after the career. If you still dont have it at this point put it on the Hazyview Oval track and set it to 1 lap, get your perfect launch and complete the lap repeat the process till you have the epic badge.
  1. Difficulty
Finish 1st in 25 races with the AI difficulty set on easy, medium and hard.

Tip - An easy way to get this is to go to quickrace, choose a track, set it to 1 lap, 0 opponents and AI difficulty on hard. The badges stack here so when you earn the 5 races on hard badge you will get the badge for easy and medium too. I did this one at the same time as my clean race runs as it is done with the same method


Career Badges - There are 125 minor and 9 epic badges to collect in this category.

  1. Iron Man
Place first in 10 consecutive races.

Tip - No tip needed really, just get first in 10 races in a row. On easy it is hard to lose, again if you are having trouble quickrace, 1 lap on a short track and repeat 10 times.
  1. Star Collector
Earn all available stars, in all Tier 1, 2, 3, and 4 events.

Tip - Most of the stars are relatively easy to earn, the two difficult ones are the "4sec drift" (if you are bad at drifting) and the one i had trouble with "spin out 4 opponents". I left out this epic badge because of the spin out opponent star.
  1. Endurance
Finish 1st in every endurance event.

Tip - There are 5 endurance races to complete, make sure you are on easy and using a fast car. you should be lapping the opponents by the end of the race.
  1. Series
Place 1st in overall series points, in all series events.

Tip - There are 19 series events in the game,

  1. US Manufacturer Loyalty
Accumulate 100 miles millage in three US cars.

Tip - I didnt worry about this epic till after my career. Chances are you will rack up the millage on a few different cars during your career. When you are ready to do this one make sure you OWN three US cars (you can not do this with a loaner), then pick the shortest endurance track and run the 10 laps, at the end of the race let it get to the section after counting up your points then press triangle to retry. Repeat this till the epic pops up, then move onto the next car.
  1. JP Manufacturer Loyalty
Accumulate 100 miles millage in three JP cars.

Tip - Same as above, Make sure you OWN three JP cars and use the same method.
  1. EU Manufacturer Loyalty
Accumulate 100 miles millage in three EU cars.

Tip - Same as above, Make sure you OWN three EU cars and use the same method.

Tip - All the above trophies are boostable! Once you have found a partner to boost with select online, verses, ranked and create a game using specific settings, your partner will then search for a custom race with the same settings. You may not find your way into the right room straight away, if you dont just exit and retry. Access to MSN is a good idea to make it easier to co-ordinate imo although not essential.Once you are in the same room take turns wining on each track.

Work on wining on all tracks first as it will add to Online Domination badge, once all of them are done choose the Hazyview Oval, 1 lap and keep retrying taking a turn each to win. As it only takes approx. 15secs to get round this track you should have the remaining wins needed to get the Online Domination badge.

  1. Driver Duel Championship

Battle to the top on the Online Driver Duel ladder and defend your Championship against multiple challengers.

Tip - This is probably the last one you should attempt as when you enter this mode the server picks a random opponent, so therefore cannot be boosted. You will require a good car, knowledge of the tracks and maybe a little bit of dirty driving to earn.
