WipEout HD & Fury Expansion Trophy Guide

PS3Trophies.co.uk Official WipEout HD Trophy Guide

    Synopsis

WipEout HD is a PSN exclusive title which is now also available on disc, based on the two PSP games, WipEout Pure and WipEout Pulse, it contains tracks and ships from these and brings it in 1080p graphics @ 60fps for the PS3. Zone mode also makes a comeback from WipEout Fusion. WipEout HD contains 37 Trophies (10 of the bronze, of which are hidden) and a Platinum after all the other ones have been acquired. It’s one of the few PSN games that actually has a full retail sized Trophy list and a Platinum to collect. It is also one of the Hardest to collect due to the difficulty and nature of the game. Hopefully this guide will help you as much as possible.

    Overview:

    Authors: djKyoto, ChaoticJak
    Estimated trophy difficulty: 8 - 10
    Offline: 33 trophies (+13 DLC)
    Online: 5 trophies
Minimum number of play throughs: 1
    Number of miss-able trophies: 0
Approximate amount of time to platinum: Depends on the indivdual players skill. Experienced players could do it in 15-20 hours. However it might take 2-3 times longer otherwise.
    djKyoto & ChaotikJak
    Step 1

Start with Arcade Perfect, get it out of the way, along with Gemini. Start a Racebox single race, starting with Vineta K forward, select for 2 players and the other settings to meet the trophy requirements. Select any ship for Player 1, and the one you want to use for Player 2. Then just win the race as Player 2. This will not count as a win in the Statistics extra in the options menu, but does contribute towards the trophy. After getting Arcade Perfect, play some more matches w/ 2 players, one of which with options for "Motion Master" trophy.

    Step 2

Zone Zeus. Play Campaign until you unlock Anulpha Pass, Zone Mode. I suggest using Piranha, as you will have surely built up some Loyalty Points already for this team (I suggest getting "WipEout Disciple" as this team also). Especially since the stats in Zone Mode are irrelevant. Practice = perfect, but nothing a dedicated afternoon of sessions won't achieve. Doing this early will also get you familar with Airbrake and Sideshift for uses in the Campaign.

    Step 3

Now for Beat Zico. You may be thinking "What! Already trying for this trophy?". But yes, as it also gets "Keep Rollin'", "Happy Accident?" and "Lapped Out" in the process. Refer to djKyoto's tip in his guide for further help. This trophy will also help for improving BR opportunities when playing the Campaign, not only improving confidence but also gets you familar with Pitch also.

    Step 4

Elite Campaign Legend. There is no point in playing any races or cells on any other difficulty apart from Elite. Pratice is the only reply you will get from veterans, I also suggest switching ships often, especially in the later 4 events of the 8.

    Step 5

Online. Do not bother with "WipEout Disciple" or "Mercenary" yet (Of course if you haven't earned any of them yet). Boosting will be the easiest method, but this is just a Roadmap so use your initiative.

    Step 6

Clean up, get any missed trophies. Most of these will be hidden on a side-note.*
    ChaoticJak
    Hints & Tips

Learn to use the Airbrakes and Sideshift. You won't get past Rapier if you don't. Some Challenges involving the A.I may be easier or harder depending if you have weapons on or off. Try both and see what suits you more. Detailed Phantom Class HD & Fury Track Tutorials Here (Very Useful): Don't let Zico and Zeus get to you too much!

    Trophy Guide

    Transcendence
Earn all the trophies in the game (excluding additional content trophies)
Getting all these trophies will reward you with the Transcendence trophy, a very tough feat to accomplish. Congratulations if you do!

    Uplift
Obtain a medal for every cell in Uplift.
For all the following Campaign trophies, these can be doneon any difficulty, as long as you get at least a bronze medal in every cell. The new 1.20 patch changed how the Campaign works out, so now all race modes have different available difficulties to complete it on. I suggest if you’re just starting off to leave it on Novice difficulty (The Square button changes this).

The following requirements listed are on the novice difficulty for a bronze medal.

Uplift has 6 races (or cells) to complete.

Speed Lap – Vineta K – Flash Class – Get a laptime of 36 seconds (or less)
Speed Lap – Anulpha Pass – Venom Class – Get a laptime of 43.5 seconds (or less)

    Campaign Legend
Obtain a gold medal for every cell in the original Wipeout HD Race Campaign
This means getting a gold medal on all 87 race campaigns, can be done on any difficulty, so this shouldn’t be too bad, it just may take a little bit of time to achieve.
    djKyoto
    Elite Campaign Legend
Obtain a gold medal for every cell in the original Wipeout HD Race Campaign on Elite difficulty
Just like the Campaign Legend trophy you have to get a gold on all 87 race campaigns, but this time race events against Comp A.I (Single races and Touranments) have to be done on Elite Difficulty. This will be quite hard to do, especially when you get to the last Campaign on Phantom Speed, as at this speed class the A.I on Elite is very skilled. Basically time, effort and sweat will help you get this one. As your skills increase this should become easier to do.

    Flatland Flyer
Execute and land a successful barrel roll on Moa Therma
This requires you to perform and land a successful barrel roll (left right left or right left right while in the air) on Moa Therma. The only place to get any air is on the last corner complex (right/left hander before the start/finish line). Easiest option is to stop and line up the speed pad, run over it, tilt up to get some extra altitude (not necessary if your using a faster speed class), and perform it here. Make sure to land on the track at the end. It’s a lot easier than it first looks.
    djKyoto
    Own the Zone
Get 20 consecutive perfect zones in a single Zone Mode event
One of the more difficult bronze trophies, this requires you to get 20 perfect zones (one zone is 10 seconds, so 3:20 of not hitting anything) in a row. Best option by far is to do this on Anulpha Pass (as with all the Zone related trophies). Try to be smooth as possible and take the upper path if possible. The first left hander is pretty tricky to do clean, as with the narrow section after the hill. Watch for speed pads if you run over them (i.e. first corner), and try to predict if you need to apply any more cornering/airbrake. Turning the music off may help also.
    djKyoto
    Double Kill
Eliminate at least two opponents in a Single Race or the same race in a Tournament event
As the title suggests, just eliminate any two other ships in a race (Collect weapons by running over active red X’s places on the track and use Square to fire). Online would be a good spot to do this, just say at the back of the grid and blast away. Getting two in time before the race finishes is still tricky enough. Try to get really close to an opponent and use the Rockets / Plasma bolt. If you have a friend, you could just be polite and ask them to let you destroy them~.
    djKyoto
    Airbraker
Reach Zone 50 (Subsonic) in Zone Mode on any track using only airbrakes and sideshift. Motion sensor controls must be turned off
Quite a hard one to get, but practise makes perfect. Any auto pilot settings such as pitch and ‘pilot-assist’ must be turned off. All you can use to steer is the L2 and R2 buttons (and sideshifting using these). As usual, use the Anulpha Pass track. Zone 50 (subsonic) takes about 8:20 to achieve. Just try to be as smooth as possible. If you touch the d-pad/Analogue stick once you won’t be awarded the trophy if you reach zone 50, so don’t be tempted.
    djKyoto
    Tournament Ace
Win every race of an 8 stage Racebox tournament on Skilled or Elite difficulty
Simple enough, load up a Racebox 8 race tournament, on Skilled difficulty, using your favourite or easiest tracks and win all 8 races. Turning weapons off may help you with this trophy, if you know you’re faster (remember you can’t regenerate shield again with weapons off, so don’t hit too many walls, or you automatically DNF if you destroy yourself).
    djKyoto
    Zone Zeus
In Zone Mode, reach Zone 75 on any track
Two words: Anulpha Pass (or Syncopia if you have the Fury Expanision). Seriously if you’re not used to extreme speeds, then this may seem impossible to achieve. You’ll have just have to practise this one a lot. You’ll have to use the airbrakes more and more as the zones and speed increase, especially for the left handers. Try to keep as clean as possible early on to keep your health for later. You’ll need to have nerves of steel and to be as smooth as silk (turning the music off may help). Always try to go for the upper right path and jump off early to the left at the end, at higher speeds you may hit the pillar just before the start line. Remember that a perfect zone (not hitting anything for the full 10 seconds of a zone) will recover 10 health. But when you reach that amazing Supersonic zone world of Neon blue and black, it’s so very worth it.

Example video shown is of me achieving this. Try to avoid the pinball effect if you hit a wall.

    djKyoto
    Arcade Perfect
Finish 1st on all 16 Wipeout HD tracks in Phantom class Racebox races on Elite difficulty. You can check your 'Arcade Perfect' progress in the Statistics screen
The A.I on elite difficulty is brutal, just like the old Wipeout games, and it will take a lot effort to beat them on every track (including all reverse variations). Chenghou project and Sebenco climb are probably the hardest tracks to win on. Turning weapons off may help you with this one if you’re having no luck with weapons. The ones you've won/not won yet are listed in the first page of the Statistics. However, if you play on 2p mode as the other player, the A.I slows down considerably, making this a lot easier.
    djKyoto
    Beat Zico
Equal or beat the lap time of 30.82 seconds on Anulpha Pass (Forward), Speed Lap, Venom using the Piranha
Ah Zico, don’t we just love you. For me personally, and thousands of other people, this caused me much rage and frustration. It literally took me hundred upon hundreds of laps to finally crack that lap time target. Sure it may be flying a ship on the slowest speed on an easy track, but you have to be so precise and fit in as many barrel rolls as possible to get a lap time that low.

Start by saving your speed boost for the lap, and just use it as you cross the start-finish line so you get another as your cross. Cross all three speed pads in the first corner and sideshift after the third one to get a tight line. Straight after this they’ll be a slight bump In the road. This is where you use your speed boost. You’ll need to go tilt up and perform the first of 4 barrel rolls.
Because when you perform a barrel roll you get a speed boost when you land, as soon as you land you’ll be at the top of the hill going down to the narrow section, this is where you can perform a second barrel roll in quick secession. Make sure to land on the track each time.
From here just keep a tight line and run over all the speed pads as possible (2 on the tight left hander). Now comes the hardest part. Where the track splits at the end of the left hander you need to go move to the right across the track and aim to jump off the peak of the track (aiming right of where the upper path is), now you should just barely have enough time to perform a barrel roll, and move back to the left to land on the track again. It’s extremely tricky to fit in a successful barrel roll in the short amount of time you have.
Basically from here, keep your nerves together, jump of the track early to the left (while performing another barrel roll) and land on the speed boost, and cross the line, get the trophy and go get a cold one, because it’s sure one of the toughest trophies you’ll ever earn.

    Lapped Out
Complete 99 laps in a single Racebox, Speed Lap session
Easy as pie, but could be boring as hell if you’re the type that doesn’t like to strive for super fast laps. You can just do the lazy man’s method of putting ‘Pilot-assist’ on for your player, and taping down the X button, put it on a Speed lap session with the fastest speed class, and just go get a coffee of something for about 30-40 minutes. Come back and presto, free trophy. Personally I just do the 99 laps as it’s faster. Good time to do it is when attempting the ‘beat Zico’ trophy
    djKyoto
    AG Assassin
    Eliminate 50 online opponents
As it says, destroy 50 opponents on the online mode. If you’re just aiming for the trophy, sit at the back of the grid and try to use weapons such as quakes, plasma bolts and missiles, etc. An easier way is just get a friend, start an online race with just the two of you. Load up ubermall, and ask them to just sit at the part of the track where it splits. Then you can just go round in circles, picking up weapons and destroying them (in a nice way of course).

Zone mode you can get a good amount of points for a good run (1500+ points on Anulpha Pass). May take a while, but easy enough.

With the likes of Zone Zeus and Zico, this one’s a cakewalk. Just unlock all 4 skins for each team. This requires you to earn at least 8000 loyalty points for all 12 teams, and unlock the chrome campaign skin. Just takes time really.

    Hold Your Fire
Reach stage 10 without firing on any track, in any Detonator event
Basically, get to level ten without using your cannon at all. You'll just have to play dogems with all the mines and bombs. I recommend the track Corridon 12 for this as it splits in two, so there's only half the amount of mines to dodge. You can still use your EMP if you wish if you have too, but this will respawn new mines next time around.
    djKyoto
    Sharpshooter
Score a hit with every round in an entire cannon clip in any Detonator event
For this you just have to hit a mine or bomb with every round of a cannon clip. Each one contains 15 sets of ammo (which actually consist of two shots, one which must hit something). Your current clip hits/misses are displayed in the bottom of the screen. Just select a wide open track such as Syncopia and just fire single shots. It will show if you get a 5, 10 or 15 combo (hits in a row) for a clip. It has to be 15 shots from that clip, not just any 15 in a row.
    djKyoto
    Da Bomb
Destroy all 14 bombs in any Detonator event
Probably the hardest medal in this DLC, it requires you to destroy the large bomb placed randomly on each lap/stage. This first requires you to get to level 14 which is difficult enough. You also have to successfully destroy the bomb on every single lap/stage (running into it doesn't count I believe). If you're just going for the trophy, as soon as you see the bomb or hear the 'bomb' warning message, use your EMP so you don't miss it. Then charge it up again before the next one comes. Again pick a wide open track like Syncopia.
    djKyoto
    Zone Battle Legend
Win a single player, Racebox, Zone Battle event with a target of 40 on Talons Junction (Forward)
Simple enough, just do what it says. Put the A.I on Novice and remember to try and fully charge your zone boost before using it. Zone 40 is quite severely fast on a track like Talon's Junction however so remember to keep absorbing if you're losing energy. Remember those Zone Barriers take off 40 shield, so make sure you're always above that.
    djKyoto
    Just Passing Through
Pass through 15 Zone Barriers in any Zone Battle event
Pretty easy, just pick any easy track and put it on a high enough target zone, then just look for zone barriers other craft have left behind and absorb your zone boost (works like a normal shield pickup for a few seconds) just before you reach them and just go through 15 of them in a single event, you don't have to win it.

    Zen Evasion
Win any single player Zone Battle event with a minimum target of 25 without absorbing
Pick an easy track (Anulpha Pass, Syncopia, etc), Target 25 Zones, Novice A.I. That's basically it. You shouldn't need to absorb if you keep clear of the zone barriers. 3 Full Zone Boosts should get you there.

    Elimin18
Eliminate 18 opponents in a single player Eliminator event
Novice A.I, target at maximum (600pts), Big wide open track (seems to be a trend here). Moa Therma isn't a bad choice. Just blow 18 other opponents up before someone reaches the target. Try to stick to weapons that deal mode damage (Plasma, Rockets at close range, Bombs) rather than weapons that deal smaller amounts. You're after kills, not points. You don't need to win the event, just get 18 kills before it finishes. Remember your handy dandy L1 flip button for opponents behind you.

    Cannon and on
Hit 5 different opponents with rounds from the same Cannon clip in a single player Eliminator event
Simple enough in theory. Just pick up a cannon (each contains 30 clips), and sit at the side of the track (or follow them from behind). Then just shot them (don't rapid fire) as they come around. You just need to land at least one shot on 5 different opponents.

    Stay on Target
Stay locked onto an opponent with a Missile or a Leech Beam for 30 seconds in a single player Eliminator event
Can be rather annoying this one. Pick a easy track, Lowest speed class, etc. Then pick up a missile or a leech beam. Once you lock on to a opponent (lock on will turn from yellow to red and beep a lot) just keep following them. Make sure you don't fall off to far behind or use your weapon. It should keep locked on around sharp corners if you're still within range.

    The Pure Four
Obtain 50,000 points on each of the following tracks in Zone Mode - Pro Tozo, Mallavol, Corridon 12 and Syncopia
50,000 points isn't really hard to achieve. Just keep practicing your zone mode on these new tracks and get said points on each of the 4 zone tracks. The cleaner you race, the quicker (and slower zone needed) you'll need to achieve the target score. Clean zones & laps rack up lots of points.

    Stats Life
Attain and view every stat in the game
Options - Bonus - Statistics. View all the pages. Ditto.
However to view all the stats you need to get a statistic for everything first. (Also some say to get a statistic for everything first you need to finish the Fury Campaign, or at least get part of it done).

    Amphi-scenic Route
Successfully perform a barrel roll whilst navigating the Amphiseum (Reverse) shortcut in any event.
Cue the Video from my good man DD777.

Remember to raise the nose just before the jump, use the turbo and steer to the right to aim for the advertising holograph on the wall (it's covering a hole). Pretty simple. And remember, do a barrel roll

    Fury Campaign Legend
Obtain a medal in every cell in the Fury Campaign
Any difficulty level, any color trophy. Long as you've got at least a bronze for every cell at the bare minimum. You'll need more than a bronze on average to get enough points to advance to subsequent Campaigns however.
