Having not completed it yet i am unsure. i think once you have completed it you cant go back, unless you have a save before you went into that mission and do it from there?

Once you finish the main quest the game ends. Unlike Oblivion. Best thing to do is leave the main quest till last.

You can only carry on in a PC mod :s ..... You'll have to try an old save im afraid

Urm actually... I was able to do several other missions during the take it back quest.
After Liberty reaches project purity and begins shooting those airships and everthing else, place a save here...
This is your last point of no return.
You can now go and do other missions... I was able to complete Reilly's Rangers as well as go take on the super mutant Behemoths, and complete both sides of "The Power of the Atom" quest. I don't see any reason why you can't do any of the side missions at all when this quest is activated.
However, the point of no return would be after you comfront Colonel Autumn regardless of the outcome, the moment you defeat him/he leaves, the timer to the end is started. Meaning you cannot leave.
I'm not sure if you can leave this area once you enter the building... so be very careful.

I think the point of no return is the bit where you run into the guy right at the end with the 2 soldiers right before that reactor buiz. Could be wrong though. Liberty prime is immense.

The problem with this is that it would be too difficult to do.
Depending on your choice at the end of the game, the entire world would have to change. Take the good route and all the water would be fine to use and the world would start rebuilding. Choose another way and all mutants etc would die.
It'd probably be too hard to fit two diffent worlds onto one disc. With Oblivion, not much changes to the enviroment after finishing the main quest.
I could be wrong but that's my thoughts on it.

i never thought of it like that, Aprez hmm that makes sense! although i would imagine it would fit on a blu ray but as its also on xbox that could be why they never done it -wouldn't fit on a dvd.

If people really want to debate the logistics of a totally different world, if you choose to follow the presidents orders, the death is a slow one, so not much would change for several months as it acts like a poison, not an instant kill.
It would have been nice to continue on, but there is very little point to. once you've done all the main and side quests and those mini misc quests, theres nothing else really to do except for randomly wandering the wastes. I wouldn't however object if they allowed you to continue with a freedom fast travel option, e.g. you pick a spot and you can fast travel to it, however it wouldn't work for areas that are extremely radioactive (that vault for instance) or water.
