I have also read the telegraph article and it simply assumes it is a hoax, they have no circumstancial proof. Just theory.

It's definitely a hoax. Was a viral marketing campaign by a Bluetooth headset company called Cardo Systems Inc. When this started doing the rounds last year, they put a disclaimer on their website explaining that it was a work of fiction.
