View Full Version : Building a drifter!

Right pretty simple title to this thread. I was originally getting a GTR but ive decided to retrack my deposit and build a drifter something i was taking up serious back in 2006 but had a major rtc (road traffic collision) which left me with 20+ breaks in numerous bones so with learning to walk again and getting fit so i could get back to work my motoring hobbies had to sit on the side lines until now.

Now alot of the work wll be done by myself only getting major work like new lsds fitted and clutches as thats more than i can be bothered with to do at home plus ive owned and modified (not chavved up like most of our grand british population do, a straight through exhaust does nothing for a corsa people spread the world lol) all my previous motors and friends rides from rx7's, skylines, supras and evos, oh and even a mates sisters s2000.

But my dilema is what car should i get and build up? It will be taken to a track as i was seriously learning drifiting from a british pro back in 06 and im going to be polishing up on my skills again this year with the hope of getting into competitive circuits (need something to do with all the free time my job gives me LOL)

Anyway ive narrowed my choices from about 10 down to two which are below, i just kinda wanna see whats more popular with general public and users on here. I will add pictures later. And also note ive narrowed it down from 10 to these 2 as these two fell into the "they can be used to get to work" category i.e. i dont need another car for that.

Mazda Rx8
Nissan 350z

EDIT: If anyone is into their motors and has other suggestions im happy to hear them, might be something ive over looked.

Cool mate (Y)

A good choice would be an AE86 like I have xD or an easy drift car like the Nissan 180SX!! When you can drift with a Hachiroku you'll be able to drift all others too :D !! Don't buy a newer car like 350Z/RX8. It's better to practice first with an old car and when your skills are on top and you drift like ken nomura or keiji then buy a bling shiny car :D ... but that's my opinion!!

Where in the UK do you practice? My brother and I made last year an AE86 for drifting and it was worth it! Now we're working on a Hakosuka GTR ... great car too!

EDIT: Here's a nice Video from our drift practice in Anneau-du-Rhin:

I'd go for the 350z, I want one of them to go with my Skyline.

Anyway, where do you go to learn how to drift? Since Fast and the Furious Tokyo Drift I've been into it and wanted to learn how to do it. Anything that can answer my question is wanted lol ;]

Yeah I changed with my brother. One was drifting and the other one prepared the tyres for his next run :D ... thanks for the flowers but we're both just bloody amateurs.

I wouldn't get a 350 purely because of its curb weight, not a fan of the RX8 purely because of the engine, although much better balanced weight distrubution than the 350.
Personally i would go for something like S13 to hone your skills in then looking at getting an S15 when your taking it more seriously. Also 4 door R34 Skylines have good weight distribution so there also pretty good for drifting

Hey,

It depends really. You seem to have a good car knowledge. I personally tune rides, race em then sell em. The key is your looking for a light-weight car so you can drift and it should be a Rear Wheel Drive. Your probally best with A Nissan 200sx or Mazda RX-7 both are RWD and are light weight if your looking for a bit more power but more cash you probally might want a Skyline R32. There quick, RWD and Light But not as light as the other so if you break it down you'll get.

Nissan 200sx
Mazda RX-7
Nissan Skyline R32

Hope it helps.

Thanks,~DrifterJoe
