View Full Version : Is it possible to make a console comparison without being a ‘fanboy’?

A am writing a multi-part blog trying to decide whether I can write a comparison between the Xbox 360 and PS3. It's been a couple of weeks in writing with research and fitting it around work. I just posted up my introduction just now with my first section going up tomorrow.

Please check it out at:

Looks pretty good! I like your style of writing. Its true, most things about a certain console can easily turn into "Well your mom <insert Yo Momma comment here>" or "l0l teh gam3 iz teh suxxx0rrzz!!!111one" and its very annoying when I get accused of fanboyism the minute I agree with one side or the other regarding, say, a developing news story on Gamespot.

Looking good. I think it is possible ..... but most people have a hard time with it. I think the 360 fans especially have a hard time hearing someone say PS3 is better. More often than not people don't have all the information and are just talking out of their asses.

Personally I believe the PS3 to be the better of the two consoles. Not to say the 360 has nothing going for it, because it dose. MC was able to pretty much define what console online should be, all on their own after all. Net flix is a fantastic thing to have on a console.... the price.... well the price fits the quality of the hardware :P . Though I have many more issues with the console than I have likes. Paying for online just doesn't sit well with me.... no matter how well defined the experience is. I love the amount of free content given on the PSN, my PS3 controller is perfect, I rather prefer the entire game library on the PS3 over the 360. The list goes on and on.....

The one thing that bothers me the most about this "Trolling" you talk about is when the 360 boys spout off about the price of the PS3..... in the end you get what you pay for, I wish people would just recognize that. I'm not the most informed about the 360, nore do I care for it...... but I'm mature enough to see that it has some strong points.... some that I wouldn't even mind seeing on my PS3..... but not many ;)

It is possible, but if you have a large group of different people it's highly unlikely. If you're a multi-console owner like myself then you can make fair comparisons quite easily.

I really enjoy my time on both Xbox 360 and my PS3, but neither is perfect. My Xbox 360 having to be shipped off to be replaced is a perfect example.

Great comments guys.
Like the blog so far djhsecondnature. Well done!
It's a good start to an objective comparison.
Really looking forward to the next sections.

Myself, I'm pretty much in the same boat as zero_cool_01.
I'll freely admit that the 360 has some great selling points as does the PS3, but I believe the PS3 is the better console just not necessarily the best purchase for everyone.

Like buying anything else it comes down to what suits your needs?
For me there's some thing's even a dollar store quality is fine, but a console is something I'll spend a lot of hours on and I could never have put up with the 360's low quality hardware even with MS's fantastic RROD warranty.
I'm not big on the online FPS experience and my friends have PS3's so the 360's excellent online does little for me.
Since the PS1, Sony's controllers have always been my favourite.
I've loved the exclusives on the PS3 so far and the only 360 title I'd want ported is Dead Rising.
Plus we love movies so we'd need to buy a Blu-ray player anyway.

If you're not into movies, you can purchase a 360 without having to also purchase a Blu-ray player. Even with the smaller storage capacity, multiplatform games are still comparable.
If you're main focus is playing online games with your friends, it's more likely that most of them have 360's as it's install base is larger. Or if you're more of a casual single-player type gamer, a 360's even cheaper without the gold membership.
Whether we think it's fair or not, the 360 does get more timed exclusives and DLC for multi-platform games.

I would even say that the 360 online isnt all that much better than PS3 anymore. Over the last two years Sony has really beefed up its online, and lets not for get that MS has been building Live since the original Xbox .... so it should be near perfect after all that time. I rather prefer the online experience on PS3 more as well, there seems to be more veriety in the games. On 360 it's pretty mutch just FPS, whereas we have games like Socom, and Warhawk and even the lesseer MGO. And now with R2's incredible eight player online co-op and very excelent competative modes.... I'm haveing more and more trouble seeing why people say the online isnt there in regards to PS3.

And why so many insist we dont have a strong liabrary of games, Id go as far as to say the PS3 exclusive content is superior to that of the 360. With games like Uncharted, MGS4, Socom, Warhawk, Heavenly Sword, Ratchet and Clank, Killzone 2, God of War 3, Ressistance, Buzz, SSHD, the PixleJunk games, well the list goes on. The 360 has some solid titles as well , but many are FPS or multi platform...... I dont much care for game like Gears of War..... and it looks as though that game is just falling apart right now.

I aslo wish that Sony would lay a larger importance on promoting Folding at Home. I think many people dont even know about it , and how important it actually is. They also seem to have never really promoted Life with Playstation either, something I think is very cool and inovative in the console world.

People pick 360 because of the price.
