Barack Obama won!!!
- Yayy for that!!! :D

What do you guys think? Should McCain win inetad? If yes, why? If no, why not?

Personally, I like Obama much more than McCain. McCain would make stupid laws, for example, that the poor should pay more % in tax than the rich should. What the fuc*? What is he thinking about!?
So, if you are poor and live in USA with McCain as President, you wouldn't be able to live a normal life. You would have to pay almost all your money in tax..

Well, I'm just glad, that Obama is going to be USA's president.

For me it had to be Barack Obama, partly because I would definitely prefer a centre-left party to be in control rather than a centre-right one. I like Obama as an individual too. I don't doubt that he is capable of doing a better job than Bush, though I do fear that the whole 'superstar' image is a bit... well, I can't quite put my finger on what it is exactly. However, I like the look of his proposals and I think he's the one that can take America forward, clearing up a lot of the mess that they've made in the world as part of the process.

I was quite surprised to find out that the democratic party is supposed to have the largest number of supporters of any American party - I assumed that too much of the country (the deep south etc.) was stuck in conservative ways. In my opinion, the democrats offer the more rounded package.

The Republicans played dirty too, which undermines their credibility significantly. Propaganda that muses over the similarities between 'Obama' and 'Osama'... was unfortunately not a fabrication of my mind - unbelievable.

ill tell you what, im an american and i am glad obama won......i didnt necessarily like either mccain or obama as individuals, but the breaking point for me was that mccain was very old, and should he die for some reason, sarah palin would become president. sarah palin is completely insane (have you ever heard her speak??), and would just run this country into the ground. joe biden was a much better choice for vp, therefore obama got my vote

I'm glad Obama won, he seems more up to the job than old-fogey Mccain.

Mainly due to actual policy difference (In the UK, the difference between the two main parties is highly negligible).

Obama is anti-war, McCain is 'until the job is done'
Obama wants to actively cut down carbon emissions, McCain does 'Only if India and China do too'
Obama is pro-choice, McCain is pro-life
Obama wants to overturn the (Bush's) tax cuts for the rich, McCain doesn't.

God bless the BBC website :)

Well, I wasn't really feeling either candidates...but I assumed Obama would win - finally got those democratic minorities off their butts!

Parts of the south here are actually quite liberal. Bigger cities mostly, but yeah...

I just hope Obama can bring that change everyone is expecting!

i think he will get shot while he's president

I agree.

It would be disgraceful if he was assassinated, or if someone attempted to assassinate him, purely for the colour of his skin. Dumb rednecks.

Let's hope that these people are really DUMB so they let themselves get caught prior to doing something stupid - smart racists are the worst thing coz they'd know how to cover their tracks.

Smart racists?

Isn't that like saying 'sugar-free candy floss'? :P

I'm afraid that's not the case. A lot of racists occupy high rank (let's just say "political") positions in different countries, own companies etc.

The problem with those is that they found a way to hise their racism (or to sell it as an important measure against whatever the hell they come up with) ... the ones you do notice are the Skinheads who offend people on the street. But those are not the "real" threat...

According to the radio, someone has been arrested (Or prosecuted, whats the difference? lol) for planning to do something to Obama. But i'm not being racist, because even though i'm not american i thought obama was right, but honestly who thought they would have been a black president lets say 10 years ago?

I wasn't a supporter of either Obama or McCain. I'm a staunch libertarian (individual liberties and all that), so my true support went to Ron Paul. Since a write-in vote doesn't count for him, I voted for who he was endorsing, Chuck Baldwin.

To me neither of the candidate's actual policies are going to do much to change the backbone of the problems that America is facing. To me the entire income tax is archaic and we really need an entire new system, not just shifting it to benefit those making under 200k.

I'm not entirely disappointed that Obama won. In fact I felt a little warm inside when he did win. Although I disagree with is policies, he's a very inspirational person. Not just his speeches, and voice but his entire story of making it through tremendous social adversity is a great story.

Here's to hoping that we can get actual change in Washington. It might not be the change I want, but if it works then I'm willing to concede my beliefs for a presidential term.
