Playing Far Cry 2 and my 60Gb PS3 shuts off.
Ok, I think, I'll leave it for an hour to see if it'll work.
Fast forward one hour....
Boot the PS3 up, comes on for about 3 seconds, beeps and shuts off.
My spidey senses start telling me that something may be wrong, "woe betide my lovely ps3" I think.
So I phone Sony (at 21:15 gmt) and the guy at Sony has a refurbed unit (because its a year out of warranty) sent out for me on 3/11.
So I have to wait 6 to 8 weeks til I get Far Cry 2 back (tho I'm not too bothered about) but I'm going to lose all my game saves AND I got the Big Boss Emblem on MGS4!
BUGGER!!!!!!!
Commence the stick poking and laughing.

Can I politely suggest mate that you back up your game saves, store them under someone elses floorboards, preferably in a nuclear bunker....just incase.

From what I've been able to discern from posts on other websites (just google the Yellow Light of Death) some of the faults can be random, but some believe it to be an overheating issue.
But what I don't understand (and I'm not knocking Sony) is:
Why don't they have some sort of manual release button for discs inside the console, like what you get on PC CD/DVD drives?

Right now I'd prefer the ocasional lag as opposed to no gaming at all.
I just hope I won't have to wait long on Monday because I'll be getting Quantum of Solace on Monday and LBP on Wednesday!
Plus I've got to redo MGS 4, I just hope that if they release trophies for it they'll be retroactive because I AM NOT doing the Big Boss emblem a third time!

Oh god, this reminds me of the time I had a 60GB... the bastard broke within a month of being bought! Stupid shoddy welding and whatnot, I think mine was playing... COD4?

My 60gb froze up during the intro to Welcome to the Jungle on GH3. After that it wouldn't read any discs.

This disc reading problem seems quite common.
Also had it happen to my 60gb PS3. Sony had it taken away and repaired within a week.
Still making quite a loud noise during certain games though (Uncharted, Burnout)
