For those of you thinking of putting Jedi, don't. They are apparently cracking down on joke religions etc. With possibly upto £1000 fine and a criminal record :O.

Another reason not to is quoted below (I read this on another forum).

If your religion is of low enough importance to you to that you are willing to put in a religion from 3 good sci-fi films from years ago, and 3 more recent rubbish ones, please consider ticking "No Religion" instead. Every tick towards any religion, no matter if it is real or a bit of a joke (or both for that matter), gets counted towards the figures of religious people in the UK.

The data gathered is used to inform government policy, and was used by the last government to justify funding of religious community bodies over secular ones.

If you don't have an active faith, please make sure the government knows.

Now I never thought of it like that. Would be interesting to find out how many people actually genuinly did this.

I don't know what I wrote. It was so long ago.

EDIT: Scotland results from 2001

14,014 - Jedi
24 - Jedi Order
14 - Sith

Priceless!

I thought the question was voluntary, so if you put Jedi/Sith or whatever, there's really nothing they can do?

Although that's totally side-stepping the far more important and serious issue of misplaced government spending

i read an article last week about this, it basically said by law they cant do anything if so many people put jedi and said infact if it has enough followers it is actually a religion because thats how religions are formed. Something on those lines i will try and find the link

also if i dont fill this out and send it back will i get fined?

No one will stop me putting Pastafarian. And if someone tells me it's a joke I will show them my gospel.

You dont have to do it until the 27th, and it doesnt take long to do. Its better than a £1000 fine

I rarely fill out forms like these,
however I do remember last time I said I was Reverend with 9 children and 3 spouses of indeterminate gender who liked to hunt witches

...they never sent me any promotional material again

haha, brilliant.
The joys of still living with the folks, I dont have to fill in such rubbish. Back to the question at hand. Why does it matter if the religion is 'official' or not. If i'm right too, there is a group of people who take the religion of Jedi or Sith very seriously, and have website groups etc where they practise said religions.

I have a friend who put Jedi on the religion part of the form and sent it off.
Gonna be such a laugh when he gets his fine.
