From Official Playstation Blog:

Notice: Unauthorized circumvention devices for the PlayStation 3 system have been recently released by hackers. These devices permit the use of unauthorized or pirated software. Good riddance, was waiting when this would happen. People hacking left, right and centre on anything and everything...going from 10 plats to 50 in matter of a day.
I am still not sure how sony would find this out tho, as Geohot hack made jailbreak look legit, if Sony was trying to look at it. Be interesting to see it...i know a couple of JB users and would keep an eye on them whether they get banned or not.

sony logs everything you do when you switch on your ps3, to what has run, downloaded and stuff, so when people are launching there back up managers it logs on sony servers = mr ban hammer coming to get you, i know a couple of people who have a jail broken console (doesnt interest me) and they both have been banned

Good riddance to them. Unfortunately it doesn't mean we'll be seeing a drop in the number of annoying system updates we're forced to download because of the idiotic activities of the few though. An hour to download an update (on a 20Mbps connection, nice servers there Sony) that doesn't bring anything new and doesn't affect me personally every month or two, what fun.

its great to see Sony finally addressing this, thats what people deserve for hacking their consoles.

To echo everybody elses sentiments, hooray, finally a decent course of action to protect the system we hold dear. And to the banned hackers, f*ck em maybe they'll have to venture outside now and get a real life.

good to see there actually doing what they said they could do 2 years ago, although i don't like the whole ifthere is a mistake bit at the end, seems like they will back down if you hassle them to me but we will see.
