So it is rumoured to be coming. Arguably the second most sought after feature for the PS3 (after Cross Game Chat). Cloud Based Saving. However, this is only for PS+ subscribers.

The feature is very simple to understand. You will save your games as normal. However, at set times of the day, your PS3 will transfer a copy of this data to Sony, who store it. This means that if your PS3 dies on you, you won't lose all your data as you set up your account and ask for it all back. Easy. And to make it even more exciting, this will work on copy protected saves too. Yip, those annoying saves you can't backup will not be lost.

There is one problem with it. It's rumoured that Sony will be giving developers a chance to make their saves, non-cloudable. Why is beyond me, but you have to hope that most developers won't take this option.

These are still rumours (all be it almost 100% accurate) and is said to be coming in the 3.6 update.

excellent + just got even better, I hope the non-cloudable saves idea gets scrapped though, having said that not many devs copy protect their saves seems only EA do that

Well if the developers get the choice then we will just have to wait and see how good this can be as anless most if not all have the ability to cloud save then a lot of backing up of saves will still have to be done, plus i am presuming all old games won't be able to be saved to a cloud ether so :(

This works perfectly with NGP. You can just leave the house and pick up where you left off, and all you have to do is sign in to PSN. Amazing stuff. This also allows for a much easier integration of cross-platform gaming between PC and PS3. We should probably tip our hats to Valve for this, because they are the first Dev to push for this feature and make it work.

Oh yeah I forgot that this could be to do with the PSP2, thanks for that Jack. Even more excited for it now.

this should be a free feature. Paid enough for the ps3 and the games. so much for loyalty. even this feature hasnt sold me ps+, reminds me though, i need to make a back up of ME2 before it goes tits up!

im still not interested in PS+. admittedly its a handy feature (ive lost everything once) but im not subscribing JUST to make use of it when i can just back up my saves as normal. gonna have to do better than that to get me interested in PS+ Sony.

Do you still lose everything if you stop your subscription? If so, I assume that means your saves are deleted too if you stop your subscription. No thanks, Sony.

Could be good if it links to the NGP but at the moment its only a good back-up in case your console fails. I'll wait to see what it does before I pay for PS+ as still no solid reason to get it yet.

Hideo Kojima:

"When we launched Peace Walker for PSP, this is what I said: In the near future there will be a world of cloud computing… I really believe that you can have a portable MGS and Peace Walker was an experiment for the cloud computing future. NGP allows this cloud computing. What I’d like to realize is playing on your PS3, and when you go out, you put the game on your NGP, and when you come back home, you can once again use your PS3 and large screen TV. This dream is going to come true in the near future. And right now, I’m working on this project of the dream. I’m sorry, I can’t reveal this now. But we’d like to present what we’re doing at E3."

That is an excellent point. I would say yes, unless they see how well it goes with this feature and if it not sucessful then make it availible to every one. does any one know if PS+ is doing well or not? i dont know any body who has it, or is interested in it.
