Sony have announced the new headset designed specifically for the PS3. With new features such as dual microphones and onscreen connectivity status, here is hoping its an improvement on the fairly average headset of old.

Looks like a nice bit of kit, I like the talk while charging feature it all seems like improvement. + a handy mute button there's nothing worse than having two conversations at the same time and both can hear.

Nice find.

i totally agree the current offical headsets are crap for noise reduction it would pick up the sound of a pin dropping on the other side if some one did it

The new PS3 Headset is garbage! trust me when i say this i bouught one about a month ago and if you compare it to the new one its no good at all.....! heres MY experience with the new PS3 Headset, Ok first thing is i already own the old one why may u ask am i buying the new one then? simply because im a tech geek i guess and i like to have all the new stuff, out of the box its very nice and sleek looking but the little ear piece that hold its on your ear is really flimsy and seems like it can break really easy.. SECOND the mic doesnt tell you when its fully charged!!!! im basically comparing it to the old headset.. your suppose to improve on old things, this is a downgrade just like the new PS3 downgraded to be cheaper and crappier for a less price. The new headset is no good is doesnt tell you when its fulyl charged it just goes solid red when charging the old headset flashes when charging then goes solid red when fully charged.. i called sony and complained about it and they cant or wont do anything like usually they told me maybe i had a faulty headset so i returned got my SECOND ONE same thing happpend comparing this to the old headset is like comparing socom 2, to socom confrontation if anyone knows what i mean :P hope this helps people on decieding to buy the new PS3 Headset. BUY THE OLD ONE! BUY THE OLD PS3 LOL :)

As you can see in the video at about 1:10 he plugs it in and it goes solid red but no flash to indicate that its charging. Obviously you know its chagring but wouldn't you like to know when its done!! the new headset is $49.99 Canadian, you can buy the old with MAG as a bundle, not sure how much that is, but i know its same price a new headset or cheaper so question is? new headset with so called better features? LOL YEAH RIGHT! or the old one that is way better with a free game??.. Ok the new one is obviously smaller sleeker and nicer but heck doesnt work as good, you want looks or quality. dont be bashed over the head with SONY's crappy advertising ugghh thhis make me angry talking about this. I actully hate where SONY is going right now! very disappointed

I expected nothing less after the dissapointment of the the first official headset, i still think the best headset i had for my ps3 was a old phone one that i paid a fiver for lol, although servers mike quality has gone down dramatically in the last year imo so who knows, thanks for the confirmation slipperypete and i agree i would like to know when my headsets charged thats for sure.

Tbh i dont care if i can see it being charged or not. What matters to me if whether its better in its core function or not? As in is the voice clarity and noise reduction better or not? Just put the headphone on charge for a bit here and there whenever u have time, i never charge mine in one go anyways.

My point of saying i like to see it charging. When im not playing a online game i charge my headset and when its fully charged i unplug it so its not just sitting fully charged pluged in.. i dunno if you understand what i mean but i really think its dumb how it doesnt indicate when its done. When you make something new or a 2.0 verison you would like to see improvements NOT just in look and style YES it looks better ill admit but the flimsy stick that goes in your ear. Come on crap! The old you could bend almost anyway then back to the original way, im not 100% sure but i dont think there is a improvement on the sound quality if there is not by much at all. I called SONY and complained about it and they always say they can help you with whatever your problem is, well my problem was never solved i said i dont like some of the features so they told me to go to the whatever SONY site and list the problems i dont like about and so so.. i wasnt wasting my time LOL! i wasted enough returning then getting the same one to see if the one i got had problems NOPE same PROBLEMS i hate it so much IMO!

Sorry again for going on and on, speaking the truth and trying to get my 10 posts so i can post links... but also would like to say.. i guess i should completely understand that SONY does this all the time perfect example the new PS3 slim.. screw all old PS3's "SONY SAYS" and makes a really cheap machine so its doesnt cost them as much with WAY LESS FEATURES, i dont need to go on about the features because if your a true PS3 fan then you would know EXACTLY what i mean!

Wow Pete I can see you are passionate about the subject so i'll very nicely ask you to just clarify for me. What are the way less features the slim ps3 offers, if you're referring to backwards compatibility the extra usb slots and card reader these were ditched very early on in the fatty's history too due to the YLOD problems they seemed to cause with overheating, probably 75% of fat ps3's still out there don't have these features. If its the Linux OS again this has been engineered out of the loop through firmware upgrades to all machines. Just genuinely interested to hear what your referring to as you said in your post I am a true ps3 fan but don't have a clue what you mean, educate me please.

On the subject of the new headset I see the lack of a full charge indicator winds you up and thats fair do's. Does the on-screen notification and power bar there not give at least some indication of whether its full or not for you though, again just asking I don't have one myself but I presume it works similar to the pads on-screen notifications.

Still looks like the ear bud shape hasn't changed much from the old one so I won't be getting one as my original was really uncomfortable, lol nice product placement by Coka-Cola in the ad.

I have the 80gb fat ps3 and I think both the new slim and my one have the same features (two usb) but even with the larger hard drive there is no way I would swap for the new one. The fat PS3 looks so much better, the lovely gloss shine, lovely curves and I prefer the power transformer in the machine rather than as part of the cable which I believe the new ones have, yes I know potential for more heat generated but I keep it well ventilated.

Yeah thats why I was asking slippery pete what he mean't, he hasn't answered though but no matter. Apart from the internal/external power transformer (which I never noticed tbh) I can't see a difference in the specs so was wondering what he was referring to.

just buy a larger Hard Drive, no need to get a slim just for a bigger drive.

Yes I know, eventually I will replace the 80 gb with my laptop 160gb and get a bigger drive for the laptop. Something you cant do on an x-box apparently I had to buy a dedicated x-box hard drive for my step son.

The last 1 came out new at £25 so i would guess this one will be about the same, anless they have improved how clear the voices come through to the headset which is mainly the server problems more then anything else i would go with the socom bundle if i were you, although they might release the new headset as part of a bundle with a future new game so if you can hold out it would proberly be best.
