Sony seems to diversifying its online variety. It already has tried this with PSN+ and now the new Rewards Scheme. This scheme basically gives the fans opportunities to win FREE rewards.
The rewards can be earned by any member, be it Ps3 or PSP, but depends upon their level of engagement with the system. This can be by playing new games for the first time; downloading content from PSN store, downloading music and videos, or by taking part in surveys.
The Rewards system works in a 3-Tier system:
Select;
Pro &
Legendary
The higher your level of engagement, the more rewards you would get. The profile page for Rewards members will display a progress meter to show how close they are to the next level.
The beta has started from today itself and will be invitation only. The testers will include early buyers of the PSN+ and Gamer Advisory Panel (GAP) members. The beta will include only Ps3 users at present, but will include PSP users at a later unconfirmed date too.
In Spring 2011, Sony would include all their members to participate in this Rewards program.
Susan Panico, senior director, PlayStation Network explained the reasoning behind the launch of this program by saying,
PlayStation's most important asset is its loyal fans and PlayStation Rewards gives us an opportunity to show our appreciation for their amazing passion and desire to continually evolve the gaming world.
We can't thank our fans enough for the feedback they have given us over the years and look forward to even more dialog to help us evolve PlayStation Rewards to make it the best possible loyalty program it can be.
Some of the Rewards included in this program are - avatars that indicate the member' status in the program, dynamic themes, PlayStation Home content, members-only sweepstakes and giveaways.
To show how big this Rewards Scheme Program is, the first prize that Sony would hand out would be ...(hold your breath ladies and gentlemen....)....
" A trip to the 2011 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas"!!
Seems like this could be the answer to the fans woes against Xbox owners who get free content with their Online Pass and Gamerscore achievements...i surely am excited about this!
