Just ordered this game, How hard is it?

As soon as I read the review for this game I was compelled to buy it, im still waiting for it to be delivered, I was just wondering how hard is it? I want ma real challenge that doesnt hold your hand. How deep is the game play?

The word very comes to mind...both for difficulty and depth of game play. For example, dieing in a game is generally a bad thing. But in Demon's Souls dieing in physical form will darken the World Tendancy (dieing in soul form will have no real effect on WT) which will make the stage you died in even harder (enemy stats increase, black phantoms start showing up) and will also make previously inaccessible areas accessible. Too make things worse, in order to obtain pure white Character Tendancy and pure white World Tendancy (which you will need to do if you're aiming for a platinum), you'll first need to darken the WT of each stage to pure black to make prime eval deamons (not as scary as they sound) and specific black phantoms (which are tougher than some of the major demons) apear for you to kill...so basically you'll need to regain your physical form only to go out and get yourself killed...on purpose...to return to soul form. Lots of important side quests and items that only become available at WT & CT extremes.

Not entirely true.
It is one method but there are alternatives.

I'd say the game is very hard especially on your first playthrough.

BTW magic when it hits a high enough level is a complete game breaker, I've maxed mine out and I kill practically everything in one hit.

This game is exceptionally hard, but forgiving when you know what you're doing. It's almost a 'prove your worth and you will be rewarded' type of game.
