Personally I'm gutted for him. I really wanted him to overturn the ban and go on to compete for us. I understand the point they're trying to make by not allowing him to go but I still find it a bit unfair. The media and the country on a whole has been against him since the start of his olympic bid - in every race leading up to his recent win they'd already written him off. Chambers still went on to win, and to prove everyone wrong.
When he got to the high-courts today they decided to rule against him, stating that his 'lifetime olympic ban' would remain in place. what must have hurt him the most is that if he was in most other countries he would have been allowed to continue. The thing about this country is it never sends out a consistant message - It get's me so angry that we can let rapists and child molesters back out on the street once they 'have served their time' because they 'deserve a second chance'. When it comes to someone who has genuinely changed their ways, who has also served their time and worked so hard to get where he is today they don't believe in giving someone a second chance? Where is the justice? Meanwhile, we've got people in this country who killed people as a result of drink driving who are given their licence back to 'help their career' (see link below).
I was just wondering what everyone else thinks on this? I may have gotten myself a little worked up on the subject but it just pains me to see someone who has worked so hard get shafted by the courts, whereas johnny rapist doesn't really care that he's done and has the court bend over backwards to help him. Know what I mean?
