View Full Version : World Tendency question.

FYI playing offline without patch 1.03.
1) When abusing Ephemeral Eyes to get to Pure Black can you use them in the level you are trying to get to PB or is it best to use them in the Nexus?
I've gone through about 12 on level 4:2 trying to get the Shrine Of Storms plinth as dark as the broken one but it just doesn't manage it.
2) Am I right in thinking that Primeval Demons will only appear at Pure Black?
Following on from the previous paragraph I gave up and wandered around the level and took the path leading to the White Bow. Primeval Demon was there. Hot footed it back to 4:1 past the Adjudicator AS to go and get Satsuki. Met numerous Black Phantom Demons but Satsuki is still standing on top of the battlements and isn't glowing black and red.
Does anyone know where I'm going wrong?

Hey samsengir, no need to use stone of ephemeral eyes, I played the game without the 1.03 patch aswell and what I did was just die in soul form, and then die again without regaining your souls; exit to nexus, enter the world you want to be pure black and do it again: die and die again without reaching your bloodstain... on original version (without 1.03 patch) even if you die in soul form, the world tendency will be reduced.
For the Primeval Demon, I may be wrong, but I think that for it to appear, you have to reach pure black, but not necessarily stay that way... what I mean is: you can reach pure black, then the primeval demon will be there, but maybe you can do it just to make it appear, and then go to white and as long as you don't kill it, it'll be there, no matter what the world tendency is

Ah thanks bud. I'm guessing then that collecting your bloodstain every time wasn't the right thing to do.....
I'm very protective of my bloodstain. I firmly believe that blood should stay in the body! :)

Hi there
1. You can collect your bloodstain without it having any effect on the world tendency. And you "can" suicide in soul form, but the process is VERY slow. Therefore doing it in Body form makes more sense as it saves you time. Do not suicide in the Nexus unless you have the original version (without any patches).
2. Primeval Demons appear only in Pure Black WT. If you kill it, it will not appear again. If you let it be, it will be there every time you do the Pure Black.
Sastsuki: Sometimes the Black Phantoms glitch. Scivir and Ostrava are well known for not showing up where they are supposed to. I guess your case adds Satsuki to the list. Try going to the Nexus and entering other world, then coming back (if the Shrine Archstone is Pure Black). If it is Pure Black and you have no Satsuki: give up and come back the next game, it will probably fix itself by then.

Hey guys. Thanks for your replies.
However something is terribly wrong in Boletaria and I'm not talking about demons or fog.
In world 4 I'd changed tendency until the Primeval demon appeared which I killed. According to some sources this should have put me well into neutral as Primevals have a large impact on the tendency. The level, though, is as black as it was when the Primeval first appeared...
I've tried changing the Tendency in world 1 as well. In human form I start at the first AS run to a tower and fall off the top. Respawn in soul form. Use Ephemeral Eyes. Run to bloodstain. Fall off tower. Repeat, repeat. Doing this I've used 6 Ephemeral Eyes; warped back to the Nexus and went back to world 1 to initiate the change in Tendency. No change to the colour of the plinth and no change in the level itself.
Just how many Ephemeral Eyes are you supposed to use to change to Pure Black?

Hey samsengir, in order to change the world tendency without using the stone of ephemeral eyes try to walk to an enemy and let it kill you... after you respawn, walk to an enemy again and let it kill you again, then exit to nexus. Reenter the world you're trying to reach pure black and repeat the process. I did that way and it didn't took so much time to reach pure black... Since you're falling from a tower, I don't know if suicide works to reduce the WT..
As for the Primeval Demon, you're right, if killing one doesn't lead you to a neutral WT, then something is glitched, maybe... try doing all the pure black WT events on your first playthrough and on the next ones work your way to white world events

Hi there. Falling off to your death does change your World Tendency, there is no need to let an enemy kill you.
When suiciding in body form, it should take between 4 and 8 stones to change the world to Pure Black. Make sure not to kill anything in between suicides!
I hope you get it... There is no need to make Boletaria Pure Black, btw, since the important items are dropped in Pure White.
samsengir
16-07-2009, 04:20 AM
Ah. Yes I did kill a few wandering enemies in between suicides....
Thank goodness those Ephemeral eyes are limitless!
Does it matter to world tendency if you use the Ephemeral Eye in the level rather than the Nexus?
Thanks for all the help and info guys. This game is one of the deepest I've played and I'd like to experience all it has to offer. :)
Edit: Just got Boletaria to Pure Black. Confirmed by gate opening to Miralda. Colour of plinth is exactly like broken plinth and is darker than the Shrine/Storms plinth. Seems to suggest either that Primeval Demons appear as you approach Pure Black but doesn't have to be Pure Black or that my Shrine/Storms level has somehow glitched and it may have appeared when it shouldn't....
Edit 2: Have tried to get world 2 to Pure Black. Used 5 Ephemeral Stones while in the level went back to the Nexus and guess what? No change in the plinths colour.
Then started suiciding in the level, warping back to Nexus and Ephemeral Eyes there. Used 6 of them and the colour started going darker but only to a chocolate brown.
Then started spamming suicides in soul form and 4 suicides later it looked dark enough - not as dark as the broken plinth but very close. The Primeval had appeared but no Scirvir.
Suicided 1 more time (again in soul form) and went to look for Scirvir. BINGO! There he was!
Scirvir - dead. Primeval - dead. Plinth has now gone to chocolate brown and not white....
I'm wondering now that if you were to suicide in Nexus and then go to the world you want as white and Ephemeral Eyed there would it shift tendency? You see, when I was using the Ephemeral Eyes in the level after suiciding there was no visible change in the plinth colour suggesting, to me, that using an Ephemeral Eye in a level just cancels out the suicide change in tendency which in theory suggest that if you didn't die in the level but did Ephemeral Eye then you would gain towards white. Has anyone else experienced this or is willing to experiment?

Hi there
I have done about every experiment possible with the World Tendencies and what you describe has not happened to me. Sometimes it has taken longer to get the world to Pure Black, sometimes even if the stone was exactly like the broken one there would be no Black Phantom... But not the extent of weirdness that you are experiencing.
I am going to make a bold guess that your game has somehow glitched and you will have a hard time getting through this... by any chance, have you done the level up glitch or have you quit the game to avoid dying at any point? In some (very few) cases it appears those two actions can corrupt your data or cause errors in your world.
If you are having too many problems, remember that suiciding in the Nexus will turn ALL worlds to Black if you are in the original version with no patches ( see http://mycheats.1up.com/list/overview/3169297/5/1/demon_s_souls/ps3 for how to erase all patches).

I never knew that! Truth to tell, I have been using your site Hihi. Very useful I must say. :)
And yes, I did do the extra souls glitch to help me get to the level I was at previously, quickly. Didn't realise it might **** it up so much. Still I can only hope that NG+ will let me get black -> white tendency okay. To be honest now that Meat Cleaver and Geris Stiletto have been reinstated on patch 1.04 there is no reason I can't patch it up. Shame that Death Cloud is reported to not work as well on it. Still I'm guessing that the other Cloud spells do - right?

Hi there
Yay! I'm glad you found the guide useful. Feel free to make an account and add stuff if you see I have forgotten or overlooked things!
On Patch 1.04, I think it is safe to install it if you don't mind Death Cloud not working to "paralize" ManEater. (I hate that boss!) Poison Cloud will still slowly eat away at the health of most enemies (Very useful against Doran) and Acid Cloud will be useful in PvP. but overall they are now backup magics rather than strong offensive ones.
Anyways, sometimes the game fixes itself in NG+, so hopefully you will find everything you need to get this beautiful Platinum :D

Thanks for the help Hihi. :)
And lolz at the Maneater comment. I don't find him to be that bad really until he lunges at me and I go flying. I must be too petrified of dodging to get out of his way!
And I have to say that in World 5 those black phantom giant goblin things seem tougher than some of the boss creatures.
By the way I managed to get Scirvir to appear in Pure Black at last. Unpatched it really is quickest to just keep suiciding in soul form and then go back to the Nexus to update the world. I definitely didn't like fighting him though... :uhoh2:
Am Pure Bladestone farming now with the Dual Katana Skeleton in the hidden passage. And I'm getting a little bored.... Does having the Large Sword Of Searching really make a difference with what he drops? Without it I get mainly Splinters and maybe a chunk or two but with it I've started getting Soul Remains as well although admittedly more splinters and chunks.
Hihihellobye
23-07-2009, 01:24 AM
Hello :)
I agree with you, those giant goblins can be SUCH a pain! Good thing is that they have very low magic and fire resistance, and you can lure them away from their mates and to a position where you can actually move around, so you can dodge their attacks.
However Maneater... hate him! (hims? lol) I found it SO easy to fall off that platform, and then the way to defeat him by being near the fire and dancing around attacking and dodging gets old quickly... It would be ok if he didn't have 2 health bars, but I usually just get bored by the end.
Fighting Scivir can certainly be dangerous! Those fireballs are serious. You can cast anti-magic field and completely screw his magic, or you can dodge until you are close enough to hit him with the Meat Cleaver, and if you have enough stamina that is pretty much the end of it because if he falls down you can kill him when he is still on the floor!
So you are Bladestone farming... ugh, that is no fun. I don't know if the LSoS will help, I had it with me just in case... but one thing that I am pretty sure about is that you should keep your luck under 20 or it becomes harder for the pure to appear! You are probably looking at at least 5 hours of farming :(
samsengir
23-07-2009, 06:18 AM
Humph. I'm fed up with farming now. Been at it for about 3 hours (luck is at 18) and had to dump loads of splinters and gained about 70 chunks. Oh and 5 Uchigatanas. :grumpy:
Took me a while to get all the chunks of Cloudstone as well but I managed it at last. Figured out that I'm gonna have to get some stuff I need on NG+ as well. Spiderstone/hardstone/moonlightstone comes to mind. In fact, do I really have to rely on Geckos for a pure Moonlightstone? In 3-2 and 3-3 I think there is only one Gecko in each.
Oh and just a quick World Tendency update. Went to NG+ with world 1 on white. Killed Phalanxe, Red Dragon and Tower Knight all in human form with no dying and no change in Tendency. I could cry.... even if it was my own fault.

3 hours in... well you only have 2 to go! ;p This trophy absolutely sucks.
As you say, the other stones can be found in other playthroughs laying around in the map so it is more reasonable.
I'm sorry to hear about your World Tendency... Did you get any of the worlds to white before? The only ones you must get to Pure White is Latria 3-2 so that you can get the key to free Rydell and then Stonefang 2-3 and 2-2 to get Keel Smasher and the stone reward from Scivir if you want.
You can get the Ring of Devout Prayer without doing the Selen quest by trading the Large Sword of Moonligtht to the tree (remember that you will need the LSoM for the weapons trophy).

I haven't had any worlds at Pure White yet. but I could do with getting world 5 (Valley) to Pure White as I didn't see the ladder for the Istaratelle (sp?) on my Pure Black playthrough.
I have a plan though. To save on Ephemeral Eyes I'ma gonna get all worlds to Pure Black. Then apply the latest patch so when I kill the BP NPC and the Primeval I only need to kill one boss to get to Pure White.
Question: After patch 1.04 I understand that dying in Soul Form doesn't decrease WT. What about killing bosses in Soul Form? Does that not increase WT either? Do you have to kill them in Human Form?
And I already have a Ring Of Devout Prayer. Got that for killing Urbain IIRC for Mephistopheles. Hence why I need to kill a fair few BP NPC in Pure Black. Gotta get my Character Tendency back from black.
And wow at the enemies on NG+. Latria in Black Tendency has some nasty horrors. A room full of dagger wielding grunts nearly finished me. And the less said about BP Mindflayers the better...
And yeah Kuja. It is a fantastic game. It can be as involved or as simple as you like.

Hey there. Well I braved and checked and here are my findings:
Your WT tendency still changes when dying/killing bosses in Soul Form, but it is very minimal so it will likely take forever! (I did like 5 runs each way and got a very small difference)
Since you are completely de-patched, you can use the original version of the game to get everything to Pure White without glitches (hopefully) and without having to turn everything to Pure Black first.
samsengir

Thanks Hihi. :)
Anyways. I have to report SUCCESS. Using the method I mentioned earlier I easily went from Pure Black to Pure White on the Valley of Defilement hereafter known as the Valley of Scumbag Black Phantom Giant Goblins.... :uhoh2: Also I'd like to point out that no Ephemeral Eyes were used at all!
Just in case anyone else wishes to try what I did then follow the following.
* Make sure you have at least one boss of the world/s that you are going to alter.
* Depatch the game back to it's original state.
* Spam suicide in the world/s that you are going to alter. No need to revive; just keep suiciding in Soul Form. May take a dozen or so attempts and can die by enemies or falling.
* Once you are satisfied that the levels you want are Pure Black then re-apply patch 1.04. If you can, check world 1 by looking at the gate and world 4 by seeing if Satsuki is on the ground and then match the colour of the other plinths to those two.
* Make sure you suicide in the Nexus as you are going to play the levels in Soul Form.
* Kill the NPC BP followed by the Primeval or the other way around - whatever suits you best. Whatever you do don't quit to the Nexus until you have killed BOTH. Dying while in Soul Form and respawning at the beginning of the level will not matter.
* When done you can either go back to the Nexus and resupply etc or go straight to any remaining boss of the level.
* Kill them. You should head straight back to the Nexus now and suicide and check the status of that world. It should be glowing a pinkish colour and should be in Pure White.
* Re-enter level and do what you gotta do. Remember to stay in Soul Form though.
In patch 1.04
Soul Form:
Dying - will not affect World Tendency.
Killing boss - will push WT towards Pure White.
Physical Form:
Dying - will push WT towards Pure Black.
Killing boss - will push WT towards Pure White.
Question: Does anyone know if reloading within a level will affect WT if you have done something to affect WT? Example. In world 4 you kill Satsuki at Pure Black but don't go back to the Nexus. Before you kill the Primeval you reload the game. Will it adjust the WT or keep it the same as you didn't actually go back to the Nexus?
Going to have a go later, myself, when I've nothing to lose but that could be a while...

Hey there again and thanks for the confirmation! Would you mind adding that method to the superguide? (There is a world tendency section that needs some updating!)
And from my experience, if you reload a game the tendency changes, however you cannot know how much it changed because you can't see the stone. So it is likely the PD will be gone if you reload after killing a BP.
Also I am not a big fan of reloading, there are enough glitches as it is, better play it safe! lol

But those Crystal Geckos are just so cute that I have to smash them to smithereens and then reload just to see if they will appear again! lol.
I'll have a go later on with the superguide. I'm a relative noob when it comes to computers/websites etc etc. But at least I know how to copy and paste! :D
If I can't get it to work feel free to copy and paste it, Hihi.
Edit: I now have Stonefang and Valley at Pure White and just working on Latria. Probably one of my least favourite levels. Mind Flayers are a pain in the butt and while the Maneaters are easily killed I'm finding that it is so easy for them to knock you off the ledge. Buuuuut. I do have a tip to share about the Maneater. Look in the tips thread. :)
Edit 2: Latria now sorted. Onwards to The Shrine of Storms where I'm expecting trouble. I only have the first Archstone unlocked so I have to kill Satsuki from the front followed by the Adjudicator. Whereupon I will resume physical form when I go for the Primeval. Can't suicide in the level as it knocks WT down and I can't exit to the Nexus to suicide or killing Satsuki changes WT so the Primeval vanishes. Oh joy! [/sarcasm]
On the other hand I just need to avoid the first few Mantas (easy) and then kill the Reaper (should be easy enough) and then head to the secret passage where I may have trouble (it might just be easier to lure this enemy out and bypass him).
Hihihellobye
31-07-2009, 01:13 AM
Lols haha
I did most of my grinding on the Shrine of Storms, the skeletons go down quickly with the right spells/weapon (fire or blunt) and they give you 290+ souls each, so they are great fo leveling up.
And I did 4-2 SO many times in co-op I can play it with my eyes closed, for real. Also the first bit, leading to the Primeval Demon, was my Bladestone farming spot so I maximized efficiency... you can actually bypass the reaper if you have enough dext (or cat ring). As soon as you enter the area with the first reaper, go left and jump down. you might land on a window so leave a message to confuse other people and then get to the floor, stay on the left and go straight to the stairs to the secret passage: the Reaper never saw you :p
Makoto is a good sword, it is worth it! (and if you get two you look soooo cool) haha.

Soldiers Trophy at last for all valuable weapons. Huzzah.
Although as predicted I did have trouble in the Shrine. Strangely it was the Adjudicator that caused me most headaches. I was a little loaded so I wasn't as quick as I could be so that meant Soul Light around the top was out of the question and believe me I tried so I resorted to melee. It wouldn't have been that difficult but I really found movement hard. After knocking him down the first time I can get his health to just under halfway. After he got up he must have shifted slightly because he just kept trapping me against the wall/pillar/corner etc. The only way I could move round him was past his sword arm which invariably clobbered me. Frustrated wasn't the word especially when I lost my concentration and for the next four attempts I couldn't even reach him due to one skeleton or another. lol.
I find that skeletons actually take more damage from Soul Light from me. And you are right about sneaking past the Reaper. I did that on my three hour Bladestone farming the other day. Still, I need to kill that Reaper a few times as I need at least 1 chunk of Darkmoonstone for an Uchigatana I have. (Seeing as I have so many I decided to make a full set if I can get the stones). And as for Makoto... Are you saying that I would look good dead if I had two of them? lol.
Edit: Have updated your Superguide Hihi.

Hi there.
Oh Soul Light, yes! it is very good specially because you can get two in one go. The reason why I mentioned fire is because my order for playing the game is: 1-1, 1-2, 4-1. So when you get to the Shrine in my path you don't have soul light (I recommend this as a way of leveling up quickly to suffer less in the other worlds)
So you had troubles with the Adjudicator? I never went for the melee approach with him, soul arrow was enough to take him from afar with some rolls, but I never thought that if you were encumbered that would spoil the strategy... mhm... interesting!
Thanks for updating the guide! :D let me know if you upload some cheats and I'll give you some kudos so you get a star. (we are in kindie lol)

Just a quick update. Got some Pure Moonlightstones at last. Working on getting Greystone Chunks and then three Pulpstone Chunks. I'm going to leave Pure Bladestone until last. I spent another three hours last night and got umpteen Uchigatanas, Soul Remains, Splinters and Chunks but no Pure.
Then all I need to do is aim for the Friends Ring and that should be a Platinum. (Got two more playthroughs to do to get all the Magic and Miracles but they don't really require any farming effort. :) )
Edit: WTF. I'm farming the six Earth Worms just before the Flamelurker AS and they've given me two Chunks and three Pures!
Edit 2: And the next few runs after posting my edit I get five Chunks. Coincidence or is it my lucky edit that gave me them? LOL.

At last I have the Pulpstone, Greystone and Moonlightstone trophy done.

Yay. I have a Sharp Uchigatana +5 in my sweaty palms!
I got so bored of farming that same skele over and over that I decided to go through my complete weapons list and see what they all can do and how effective they are. (You see I haven't tried out some weapons that never interested me that much like the axes or maces and so on.) Garl Vinlands Brand weapon got me the Pure Bladestone. It just may turn out to be my favourite weapon now... LOL.
End of NG+ and onwards to NG++
And thanks Hihi. For all your support and encouragement. I honestly believe that if I didn't get that Pure Bladestone soon I would have just given up on that trophy.

Latest update:
Got the white ring - fairly easily I might add. It doesn't take many unique Black Phantoms to get it surprisingly.
Also got all magic and so I just need to get the last two remaining miracles for a platinum. If only it wasn't my two most disliked levels - Latria and Valley... I find them to be so time consuming because I can't hurry through them. Still, if I keep them towards white that will mean no pesky BP enemies like those Giant Goblins.
Edit: Yeehaw! :hugest grin ever: Guess who got platinum. That took a lot of effort and a little patience or is that the other way around? Took me into level 10 on the PSN as well. I'm exhausted.... :D

I just got this game last week and have been readin through the wiki guide, this forum, and a couple other sources for a good strategy for platinum. So far, I've used the glitch to get me to 712 and have killed the demons in 1-1, 4-1, and 4-2. Is there a list anywhere that shows the best place to farm certain stones? I've been going for a vicious long bow +5 but I'm missing a few chunks of spider stone. Also, what's the hardest ones to farm?

Wait, did you use that glitch before playing through the game normally? That would take all the fun out of the game. I've had Demon's Souls for months and I still haven't used that glitch even though I know about it.

Yeah...this being the Ps3TROPHIES site and all......
I've done my fair share of grinding in plenty of rpg's. If there is a way to exploit it, you're damn straight i'm going to do it. Besides, I'm from the states and plan on buying it over here. You can be rest assured that they won't need to patch the US version and this glitch will be dead. I wanted to get the platinum on the Asian one first so I at least know what I'm doing and don't have to spend 1000 hours of grinding AND figuring out what to do.
No offense, but what annoys the hell out of me on forums is when you ask for help and instead you get criticism.

Okay first up I'm gonna be really pedantic and say that it is a Viscous Bow. While it is a vicious bow, at the same time, it is not a Vicious Bow. :)
Chunks of Spiderstone - World 2-1 by the second rock throwing guys is a Crystal Gecko. He's the best source of Chunks.
Mycheats and Wikidot both have lists showing you where to farm all types of stones.
Hardest to farm is Pure Bladestone and quite a few Chunks:
Pulpstone,
Greystone,
Cloudstone.

Thanks samsengir, your questions on this thread have helped me out a lot already. I was looking on those two sources and didn't see it, I'm sure it was right ion front of my face.
I've corrected plenty of people in my day for grammar/spelling, thanks for the faux pas clarity. :D

Hehe. No probs buddy. I see the Vicious Bow all the time on the Gamespot forums and it's beginning to wind me up a little. :)
Try this page:

and scroll to the bottom. The list you see there should be where to find all the kinds of stones.
