View Full Version : Tips for first playthrough?

Hey guys, I've just got my game (finally!) after more than 2 weeks of waiting :D

Well, I've read A LOT of stuff here, on the wiki and a bit on the gamespot forums about the game but since I didn't had it before some stuff was kinda hard to understand...

But anyway, I'm decided to go for the platinum and I want to do it with the minimum amount of playthroughs (don't get me w rong I loved the game, but I don't think its necessary to play it 4 times :P)... so I have a few questions :bomb:

I'm expecting to die a lot in my first game, so that means the world tendencies will shift towards black right? So from what I understood there's some items which can only be found in certain tendencies, so I should go for the black-tendency items in my first play? Is there anything I can miss?

Also, the weapons, magic, equipments and general carry over to the new game right? And well, if I need to have all kind of weapons won't that be too heavy for me to carry?
Is there a place where I can leave my stuff like a bank or with leveling up I'll be able to carry more and more stuff to a point I shouldn't be bothering with that? Should I sell something? Weapons and stuff?

Well I guess I wrote too much already xD

In short, any advices for my first play? Should I go for something? Keep something? Thanks in advance :bigcry:

EDIT: Well, I found out that you can deposit your items with the guy on the nexus, how dumb am I :knife:
But isn't there a way to like deposit your souls on the nexus so you don't lose em if you go to the worlds? :S

Hey there.

There was a very similar question on another thread, here are my thoughts:

----
On the world thing... initially, you will die a lot. You will learn from dying, and start to figure out techniques and tactics against each enemy, but you are likely to get frustrated if you are wanting to get all the secrets.

My advise:

Play the game in this order, without thinking about world tendency:
Boletaria 1-1, Boletaria 1-2 (summon an ally phantom)
Shrine of Storms 4-1 (grind here and in 4-2 until you are over level 50 or 100, by using your Blue eye stone --- you keep the souls even if you die as a blue phantom---).
Tower of Latria 3-1 (with ally) *Save Freke so you can learn powerful magic*
Stonefang 2-1, Stonefang 2-2
Valey of Defilement, all of it *learn spell death cloud*
Shrine of Storms 4-3
Stonefang 2-3
Latria 3-2 and 3-3
Boletarian Palace 1-3

Now you have killed all the bosses except King Allant, and you are probably in level 100+ and have an arsenal of spells and weapons and upgrading stones. Go to Ed in 2-1 and upgrade what you can. This is the time to get the worlds Pure Black. Choose whatever world you want to get the event from, go there and kill yourself from a cliff. when you respawn, touch your bloodstain, use a stone of ephemeral eyes and kill yourself again. Do this 4-5 times and go back to the Nexus, the next time you enter the world it will be pure black. (not all of them have something special to pure black, in which case it is best to do the event in pure white. Istaratelle spear, for example, is available in both extremes).
*Stones of Ephemeral Eyes are 100% drop from plague swamp babies in 5-3*

When you have all the items you wanted, finish your first playthrough, and then go for pure white in your second one. Second time around you can do the worlds in any order, but I recommend having a list of spells you need at hand so you know which ones to go for first.
----

Also, you can read the guide I am writing, find the trophy guide, and other useful tips here:

http://mycheats.1up.com/list/overview/3169297/5/1/demon_s_souls/ps3

There is a forum there that actually sends me emails when someone asks a question (here I have to remember to come and check) so if you want immediate help create an account and contact me there. :)

Forgot to add: there is no official way to store souls in nexus. However, see site above for 2 "cheats" on how to keep your souls.

Thanks a lot for your help my friend :)
I had seen this post before but somethings are still kinda confusing :S

Like when you say that if you use the "Blue eye stone --- you keep the souls even if you die as a blue phantom".. How does that work? You use the stone after you have died and your souls are lying somewhere in the level? Also where do I get it? :P

Also when you say that I should summon an ally phantom.. How does that work? I've been playing online but still haven't crossed with any phantom of any kind :S

And about the souls... Should I keep spending them or trying to save em?

Anyway thanks again for your help! :D
Would you mind if I added you on PSN? Or if you want to you can add me, PSN: Dropeti :)

To store souls in the Nexus, you should suicide there, then go to the world you are going to grind in, and use your Blue Eye Stone to ask another player to invite you.

When they do, you can play in their world, gaining more souls.

If you die in their world, you will just be kicked back to your world, but keep all the souls you have gathered.

The reason to do this is the Black Phantoms: if a Black Phantom kills you in another player`s world, he/she will steal all your souls. So it is easier to get by if you know that the bulk of your hard-earned souls are back in the Nexus. waiting for you.

On summoning an ally... well it takes time sometimes because there are level restrictions, so you can only call people that are close to your level. This means that someone that is close to your level must use his/her Blue Eye Stone and want to play co-op at the same time as you are looking... Oh, and you cannot play co-op until you finish 1-1

The souls... it depends. I would avoid using them to buy grass and stuff, you will find everything you need. Buy the basic attack spells (soul arrow, etc) and then use the rest to level up your HP, Magic, etc depending on what character you are playing.

My PSN friends list is full so I will have to see if there is anyone I can remove... Will get back to u later :)

Thanks for the help Hihi, they've been really usefull! :)
Played quite a bit more (Im about 15 hours now and I've beaten 1-1, 1-2... 2-1, 2-2 and 2-3... 3-1... 4-1, 4-2....)

But then I decided to go after the white tendency (after I beat the Dragon God in 2-3 the world was really white but apparently not pure white since I cant reach the sword)... SO I've researched, and researched... I've spent the last hours (yes, hours) searching on the gamefaqs forums, in the wiki, in mycheats and in here and I'm still getting REALLY confused on how to go for the white tendency (the black one is quite simple)...

:pslogo:SO I've beaten world 2 already and I didn't got pure white in it, since I dont want to hang around waiting for some black phantom to invade me (I would probably lose anyway xD) that means I can't get it until new game +, right?
And for worlds 1 and 4, especially 4, it would be difficult to get pure white since Ive beaten 2 bosses already, right?

:pslogo:What do you think the best option would be for me? Finishing all the bosses except the last one without caring about tendency, then getting everything on pure black and finishing the game?

:pslogo:So there's the tendency resetting glitch... I've read different things from different people... I like playing the game online, especially since the tips on the floor still help me, is it REALLY a bad thing when going for WHITE tendency?
Some people said that if you only quit the game on the worlds and never in the nexus the worlds wouldn't reset, but others said that even doing that the worlds resetted... Is it really that bugged?
Do I really have to start a world and play until the end of it without dying and in body form to get it to be pure white? (I like taking a break and unloading stuff with the npcs! w00t)

Some other people said that its best to first go to pure black, then kill the first boss of each world AND the black phantom and primeval demon in one go, then quit to nexus and return... Is that the way to do it?

:S :S Sorry for so many questions but this tendency thing is giving me a headache hehehe and who knows maybe its useful for someone else?:inquisitive: :D
Thanks!

LOL

How could you get so many words in one post!... hahaha

For world tendency, if you want to do it on your first playthrough, it is probably best to
1. Beat bosses on your own world in human form
2. Use the Blue Eye Stone and defeat other player's bosses (slow but rewarding as you learn new tricks and earn souls)

My personal advise is not to worry about world tendency yet. You can do all the worlds and not kill Allant (1-4) and then go around getting all the worlds black (just suicide while in human form and repeat x4. You can get Stone of Ephemeral Eyes from the baby enemies in 5-3). Do all black tendency events, and grind yourself silly on your first playthrough: I spent over 100 hours on it! - mostly grinding in Shrine of Storms haha -

If you power up properly and use the multiplayer to co-op and learn new tricks and tactics, you will not die as often on your second playthrough: you can actually kill all bosses of each world in one "life". That will make the world Pure White.

Regarding the online glitch: as long as you do not quit the game, there is no problem. This means that all you have to do is spare the time to change the WT in one go. For that reason, it is best if you have already finished that world before you start, so you don't have to return to the Nexus and waste time. If you are using the "quit game" trick to avoid losing your souls, more reason to play co-op, so you don't have to care about dying.

In my experience the world tendency seems to reset, when you are playing online and use the "evacuate" miracle.

I have been playing online for the majority of my play-throughs, and now switched to offline to bias the worlds easily in the direction i need for the weapon etc. without worrying about accidently triggering the tendency glitch. that way you can easily use the "quit" and reload trick if you mess up and not worry about things changing in a way you dont desire!

Also remember, if you aren't strong enough to go head to head, you can still beat most non-boss characters, by doing the following method.

Get a bow in your hand (2) and your primary weapon in (1). Make sure your exit is clear, and equip the thief ring. Total protection helps if you have it, should things go wrong and you need to run.
Shoot an arrow at the enemy so they run towards you, back off yourself running if you need to. Once you are a small distance away they will turn around and slowly walk back to their original position, at this point jog (dont run) up behind them, lock on quickly and score a critical strike with your primary weapon, then run away, they should follow briefly then stop chasing and turn around and wander back again, just repeat these steps and you can kill enemies way above your level to get items faster!

I used this method for the king when i was level 30, it took about 30-40 mins, but it was worth it for such a powerful weapon so early on in the game :P

From what I read in forums and the questions being asked all over the internet, this would help some newbies, a lot. Please don't diminish an idea or tactic because you had it too.

What do you mean it is the only way to farm Bladestone??? I don't use weapons with critical capability (great swords, etc) so I have never done this and could get the Bladestone anyways. ???

I have a question (thread hijack >.>)

I have done 1-1 and 1-2, if I wanted to do both the full black and full white tendancy parts on the castle could I kill doran, suicide a few times and make it full black. Then when i've done that kill miralda and gain some tendancy, kill the primevil demon on 1-3 and kill penetrator. By my calculations if I do this all in one go I should be upto full white tendancy?

Hihihellobye
09-05-2009, 01:43 PM
I think it could work... the numbers for this are a bit incomprehensible, but here it is from the JP Guide:

From - 180 (Pure Black)
Kill Miralda Black Phantom +50
Kill Primeval Demon +10
Kill Penetrator +10
Kill Blue Dragon +30
Total 100

You could still need another +80... You can get it by defeating an invading black phantom online (+50) or you can call blue phantoms and revive them (+10 every time)

kyo daikun
09-05-2009, 01:55 PM
Jeez its hard to get back upto +, I have been told that playing online can mess your game up so ive been avoiding it, I havent killed the red dragon either yet, would that get me some points?

Hihihellobye
09-05-2009, 02:01 PM
Red Dragon is +10
The online glitch only happens if you quit the game, or at least it did not happen to me otherwise.

If this is your first playthrough, I recommend that you do the Pure Black tendency and then leave the Pure White for your second or third playthrough, because if you grind enough you will be able to kill all the bosses in one go and change the tendency to Pure White very easily.

kyo daikun
09-05-2009, 02:08 PM
Yeah i was thinking that would be the best plan, ive heard on the new game+ you can be killed very easily, are the enemies stronger or is it just the hp that increases? (sorry for all the questions but theres no real guide online from what I can find, the wiki is a total mess)

Hihihellobye
09-05-2009, 02:34 PM
Yes the wiki is a mess lol. I`m writing a guide on mycheats, but it`s a work in progress...

In New Game +, enemies have more HP, better defense, and deal more damage... However they also give you more souls! By New Game ++, you will be strong enough to be able to kill most enemies with two magic hits, so you can cheap your way to Pure White. :p

Dropeti

So I've finished the game yesterday for the first time :D Great game...
In my first playthrou i've done the white and black character tendencies but didn't thought about the world ones...

So I started boletarian castle (online) and killed phalanx and then when I was killing the red dragon, 2 black phantoms invaded me and I killed em.... Then I killed the tower knight and went to nexus... when I saw I was in pure white tendency :crown:
So i've done the events in white and changed to pure black and O-M-G, that executioner miralda is freaking owning me... New game+ + pure black world + BP Npc = me getting owned :P I think I'll try to find some blue phantoms to help me xD

But anyway, I rather play the game online a lot more than offline, so I decided to try doing all the pure white events online anyway, mainly because I have so much more fun with the blue phantoms ;)

Do you guys think its possible? I probably will do one world per sitting so I won't be quitting the game on the nexus (only if I die by accident in a world xD) and I'll try to find some phantoms to help me (anyone near level 72 by the way?)

Hihihellobye
09-05-2009, 03:08 PM
Hey there.

It is possible to get pure white if you are careful with the darned Black Phantoms... I always call two allies to distract the inevitable BP and use the Banish Miracle as soon as I get close to them... sometimes it does not work :(

Congrats on finishing your first playthrough... you probably missed loads of things so enjoy finding out more! ;)

Oh my god, im so fing stupid...

So I've made a cross list on which demon souls you need for what to avoid playing the game 3 or 4 times... So based on my 'calculations' I figured out that you could, just like everyone said with ed the blacksmith, buy all the miracles from Ubrain and then quit the game before it saves...

My mistake :bomb:

Not only the miracle for the 3 colorless demon souls didn't appeared, but when I bought the remaining others it automatically quit and saved :bigcry:
So now I'll have to play the game 3 times anyway :O

But anyway, now that i've come this far, does anyone know why the miracle with the 3 colorless souls didn't appeared? It's the only one left now :S

Hihi, i've been using the wiki, your my cheats guide and your guide here in the forums all the time :D, each one opened in a tab here in firefox :P

But the thing is I already have 4 colorless demon souls, but I traded 2 of em with crow and the other ones I got from mephisto I think.. Anyway, like kyo said, I've read somewhere aswell that the miracle will only appear if you kill a primeval demon (which sucks cause I already have their souls :knife:)

Hihihellobye

I think Knight is the best class, you can handle swords well and have the possibility to get strong magic as well. The only setback is that your stamina regeneration can be bad because of the armor, but that can be fixed easily!

Dropeti:

Oh well, you can get it next time! Primeval Demons are easy to make appear and easier even to kill... And yes, it sux, but the only place you can cheat with the Demon Souls is the blacksmith, the other 2 trophies will autosave :(

Dropeti
10-05-2009, 11:31 PM
So I've spent most of my souls with the miracles with urbain, even thou I never really used miracles at all, or even upgraded my faith level (20 to get the pure stone)...
And now (in new game+) I can't for the hell kill the black phantoms npc.... I've tried the ones in 1-1 and 4-1 and its just freaking stupid... Really I stand no chance at all... I can survive aslong as the total protection is up but once it wears off I'm done... I'm using a long sword + 8 and black set because I like to ble able to dodge fast... But my weapon does little damage to them and I can't get enough space to recast protection...

Any tips? Would that soulsucker spell work? I could try rescuing the witch and getting it... But to get the others spells I would have to pratically beat the game this time and then I coud only do the tendencies on newgame++ (which I think it would be harder)

Thanks a lot :)

Hihihellobye
11-05-2009, 12:06 AM
Hey there.

To defeat the Black Phantoms in 4-1 it is best to

a. Call allies
b. Lure them out one by one with a bow hit: Make them follow you towards the archstone, they will eventually hit a sort of invisible wall and stop advancing, which means you can attack but have a safe place to go eat grass :)

Soulsucker is a spell that needs you to touch your opponent, so not my favorite. Soul light should work pretty well... What class are you playing and what are your stats?

Dropeti
11-05-2009, 12:31 AM
Well I can't call allies, at least no for 1-1 and 4-1 because I've beaten the bosses for there aswell (following the guide in the wiki, where it says: defeat one boss, get pure black, kill the BP NPC and the primeval demon then 1 more boss to get pure white)...

I've made a knight but I soon kinda regreted and invested on magic a bit... Now I'm like level 80, with 30 streght, 24 dexterity, about 20 magic and faith and 25 of Will... I've read that a good spell is death cloud but since I've wasted the demon souls on miracles I can't get it for now... I dunno I feel like I hit a wall, those black phantom npcs are really tough...

Black Phantom Executioner Miralda and Black Phantom Satsuki were the ones that owned me :S

Hihihellobye
11-05-2009, 01:04 AM
Sorry I thought you meant 1-4... lol

To be honest with you I have my doubts about the wiki, it does not sound efficient...

Satsuki... He should not be too hard: he has low stamina and he is using a weapon that hurts him. Try applying some sticky white stuff or turpentine to your weapon and attacking him with a Bastard Sword or something that breaks stamina, he will be defenseless.

For Miralda, there is no reason to defeat her in Black Tendency, you will get no special items, so get the event in white tendency instead.

Dropeti
11-05-2009, 03:06 PM
Oh my this thing is just stupid...
So I kept trying over and over again to beat Satsuki in pure black... I used the sticky white stuff but I still dealt little damage to him... But anyway after some tries I could get him to about 20% when he freaking healed to 100% HP.... I couldn't believe my eyes!

So I kept trying more and eventually I got him to about 20% HP TWICE and he healed...
With my current equipment it just seems that I can't comobo him for too long to kill him before he heals...

I saw this video on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nqSJO-eFV3A and I noticed that he could do some sick combos, but by judging his max HP/MP, stamina and attack power I guess he should be level 200 or higher, I dunno...

But anyway that sword he is using seems pretty good, anyone know which one is it?
I trying using the bastard sword, the soulbrand and demonbrand but my Long Sword + 8 just seems to be better, I dunno, I like being able to slash quickly...

monkeymajiks
11-05-2009, 06:27 PM
I had a similar problem to you, but dont despair!

I managed to beat him around level 60 or so. The key is to making sure you are agile, AND able to attack quickly, I used a crescent falchion +5 and some lightish armour, (Meridian is best) I would move in for several slashes then avoid his attack. I also cast Total Protection and kept this active during the fight to reduce any damage when i slipped up. When he gets towards 30% health if you give him a moment he will try to heal himself (as many of the tougher characters do) this is where a quick slashing weapon is favorable as you can usually get in there and hit them, stopping them being able to heal when they try. If you have poison cloud that can also be a bonus.

Oh and the sword he is using is "Makato" you can get it yourself by going to 4-2 when it is pure white and in to the pit that patches throws you in. It should have come off the spike so you are able to pick it up. Its a nice sword but it drains your health when using it!

Hey there.

MonkeyMajiks has the right idea, but I don`t know how wise it is to wonder in New Game + at level 60 lol.

TBH, I got to new game+ on level 200, so I did not have trouble getting through the bosses... To avoid frustration, doing some multiplayer grinding could be a good idea.

The tactic to beat Satsuki, however, is the same. I used a knight as well, so I know that you are limited in the weapons you will be very proficient at. The Bastard Sword is good for Satsuki because it breaks his stamina, so he cannot defend or attack you. However if you don`t regularly use this weapon, you probably are not proficient at it and this is not a good place to learn lol. Have you tried using the Penetrating Sword? And I guess you don`t have a Meat Cleaver... if you get it and smash Satsuki with it he will fall on the ground and be easy prey.

If you are used to a long sword, anyways, then go to Ed`s and make a Mercury or Tearing one, so you can poison/cause him to bleed. Death Cloud is a great spell for him, he has only 68 plague resistance, so he would die rather quickly, but if you don`t have it you should then use poison on your blade :)

Also what shield are you using? A good shield can help

Now to attack him:

Wait for him to come, block his attack, counter. If your counter connects, then immediately go into a strong attack, then use X to evade and recover your stamina. Your advantage is that Satsuki has low stamina so he cannot attack you many times continuously, and he cannot roll away after he burns off his stamina. So what you must do it learn the timing of his attacks so that he never gets a hit on you because you are blocking, but you get sporadic hits on him with counters.

You can take advantage of the weapon slots, have a catalyst and a shield on your left hand, and every time that you are running low on stamina, use a magic attack to keep him stunned. Also, if he is about to heal himself, hit him with a spell and he will be interrupted, and one of his grasses will be gone.

You should also have one strong and one fast weapon in your right hand. For example: bastard sword +X and mercury short sword +X. This way you can alternate depending on how much stamina you have left.

I should try making a video, but my character is maxed out so I don`t think it will be that helpful...

Anyways, you are trying to get the World Tendency to Pure White right? If you have bought the resurrection miracle, you can call Blue Phantoms and revive them until the tendency is pure white. You can do it in any point of the Shrine and it will affect the whole world.

First of all, thanks a lot for the patience and will to help me out, you've been really helpfull :)

I've been using a long sword + 8 and a flame shield, I like that sword because it's fast... I just got the North Regalia and the Meat Cleaver... Maybe I'll try using them...

But really.... You must be kidding me that reviving blue phantoms gives you white WORLD tendency... If this is true I can't believe I didn't knew this before!!! It makes everything just way easier :D
Gonna try it now see if it works! :D

"MonkeyMajiks has the right idea, but I don`t know how wise it is to wonder in New Game + at level 60 lol."

Nah, its easy peasy! I am on Game ++ now, on level 113 without any trouble at all :D

I suppose the level is a bit of a mis-representation, as it all depends where you allocated your points, and since most of mine up to level 60 or so went on stamina, dexterity, strength and endurance and i was playing as a knight, i was one mean killing machine!

Also has anyone else noticed just how good the spiked shield is when it is fully upgraded to +10?
Its got incredible physical defence (no magic though) but light and with the spikes to skewer demons with, as the description says "an often overlooked" gem :P

Hihihellobye
12-05-2009, 08:08 AM
Hey there.

Same shield I went for! Loved the Spike shield. Especially against invading Black Phantoms, they never expect you to attack with your shield!

I leveled up a lot because I did hundreds of hours in multiplayer in my first playthrough, and because I wanted a versatile character, so I trained my knight to be strong in both melee and magic... no idea how hard it is to get by in level 100 in new game +, but a lot of people have trouble if they are not around level 200... Good for you for having no trouble, maybe you could share your character build so other ppl don`t waste their souls?

sure thing, ill have to wait until i can get to my PS3 to get the numbers, but generally the equipment i used was

Dragon sword + 5 (until i could get my hands on the North Regalia), with Lava bow or Crescent falchion +5 in the second right hand position (depending upon circumstances). In my off hand i used the Spiked shield +10 and talisman of beasts (so i can do magic and miracles where needed). Generally i would take the evacuate and heal miracles, swapping the heal for cure on world 5 (as i usually have plenty of full moon grass anyway). I would take Total Protection and soul light for my magic.

For armour, i used the Meridian Set (purchased from the old lady in 5-3), as this offers a high resistance to flame and physical (the two most common) without sacrificing too much mobility and when combined with water veil and a ring of flame resistance makes you pretty impenetrable to the dragons and bosses of world 2.

Rings, i usually use the thief ring and eternal warriors ring, i am generally always alive and not in soul form as i dont die that often.

I'll try and work out the numbers when i can get to my PS3, but if it helps i put enough points in magic and miracles to have 2 slots in miracles and 3 in magic and put everything else in strength, endurance and dexterity.

I didnt go near upping my luck levels until i was way over level 100.

Hope this helps, it offers quite a flexible build for most circumstances.

My tip is when you die don’t quit game at all you’ll lose your souls even though when you do die you lose them you still can go back to where you last died and re collect them I just found this out I have quitted three times when I died and have lost over 2000 souls which I could have easily gotten back to.

Hey there.

Getting back to your bloodstain is how the game is designed. The reason that the "quit game" trick appeared is because there are some times that you know you will not make it back, or if you have been killed by an invading Black Phantom you want to quit before the game registers it or your souls are lost forever.

If you are still losing your souls even when you quit the game, it is likely that you are doing it too slowly. You should react very fast, don`t give the game any time to save. When you take that fatal blow, quit immediately before you get to the "you have died" message.

So I've finished the game a second time now with a new character, doing all the pure white and black tendency events along the way... A friend of mine helped me trading the items to my main character and now I'm back at him (well, her actually :P)...

So in my main character I had bought all the miracles before except the one that requires the primeval demons souls... I read that in order for this miracle to appear you need to have killed at least one primeval demon, even if you already have the souls...

So I made world 2 pure black and killed the primeval demon right in the start but... Nothing! Urbain doesn't say anything new and no new miracles to get... Any tip on this? :undecided:

Oh and if someone around here could be nice enough to trade (and I trade back right away) with me some stone-upgraded weapons I would be thankful :D
(I'm having a hard time getting the pure Moonlighstone and Darkmoonstone ones, and of course, Bladestone)

Thanks once again! :)

monkeymajiks
14-05-2009, 06:36 AM
for me i killed a few primeval demons, but i didnt speak to him until i had 3 in my inventory (not in storage), so i guess it would only appear *if* you have slayed a primeval demon *and* have 3 colourless demon souls in your inventory. I got this on my first playthrough, fairly early on so i dont think there are any other particular circumstances to make it appear, unless i did something by accident!

Hihihellobye
15-05-2009, 02:17 AM
I think in order for the Miracle to become available you have to

1. Kill a Primeval Demon yourself
2. Have a Colorless Demon Soul on your inventory when you talk to Urbain.

And Pure Darkmoonstone is easy! Go to 4-3 and kill the Geckos there, they always drop some.
Pure Moonlightstone you can find from the Gecko from 3-3, right before the final boss.
Bladestone... well... we all know where to get it... problem is the drop ratio... sigh...

Hey thanks for the tips guys I got it, but even when I spoke to Urbain with the souls in my inventory he didn't gave me the option, I only managed to get it after I killed a Primeval demon AND he dropped a colorless soul...

Got most of the weapon trophies now :D
Only need to beat worlds 2, 3 and 5 to get all the magics and then the trophies for Bladestone and Pulpstone, and the platinum is mine =]
Anyone kind enough to lend me the Bladestone or Pulpsone ones? xD (I'm level 206 now)

superbjobby
18-05-2009, 12:47 PM
Yes, all of the enemies are much stronger including the bosses. Black phantoms in the Tower of Latria (the squid head wizards) can kill me with 1 soul arrow (I'm soul level 115). You should have learnt how to deal with a lot of the creatures so it is a lot more manageable and you know better what to expect around each corner.

monkeymajiks
18-05-2009, 02:18 PM
Got my platinum on the weekend :P

It gets harder with each play-through, game++++ gets particularly mental in places.

A quick tip for dealing with the squid guards is to use the Anti Magic Miracle, it makes them completely harmless as they rely entirely on magic attacks, and just jangle their pendant at you with little consequence :D

Another thing to try to note is that some enemies are far more susceptible to physical damage than magic and vice versa. So if you are having trouble hurting a foe, look at the stat of the weapon you are using and if it is augmented heavily by magic (Soulbrand for example), switch to an entirely physical attack weapon (Katana, Meat Cleaver etc) and that should sort the problem out!

the boss @ 4-2 kills me now with 2 hits, that sucks :D
how can i use with the knight magic and miracles?
and what should i skill if i want to use a bigger sword?

should i start new? i want the platin, world 1 is black tendency, and world 4 pure black, my knight is @ soul level 74
i know how to deal the enemies and bosses and level up, i want in all worlds pure white tendency, character tendency too

i cant transfer all the demon souls from Character A to Character B or ?

monkeymajiks
18-05-2009, 09:07 PM
Personally, i wouldn't bother starting again just yet.

You cant transfer souls at all, you can transfer weapons from one character you have to another only if you have a friend who is a similar level to you. Then you summon them as a blue phantom and drop all your stuff so they can pick it up, then you load up your other character, who needs to be a similar level again and summon your friend as a phantom so he can drop all your items and you can pick them up!

For defeating nearly every Major demon the Firestorm spell is a must, it usually kills them in 1 or 2 uses (even in game ++++) and is pretty devastating. If you dont have that the best tactic for the 4-2 boss is to use the thief ring and slowly WALK dont run or jog, round the edges and be paitent until there is the opportunity to strike from behind, once you hit him retreat quickly (usually i run, then slow to a walk when a small distance away) and repeat till he is dead. If you use the Total Protection spell this should also stop him from killing you in 1-2 hits, it can be got from the tower knights soul in 1-2.

Hope this helps!

hm ok thanks, if i cant beat him tomorow, i will restart :D and get easily pure white from beginning :D

monkeymajiks
18-05-2009, 09:40 PM
for magic, you need to get your level up till you get an available slot, which you can then "remember" a spell to add it.

For making worlds white and black tendency, the easiest thing to do is play offline. There is a glitch which sends the worlds to neutral tendancy when you are in online mode, and use the evacuate miracle, or die and restart. Which makes things rather tricky. I played in offline mode so i could carefully engineer the tendency to what i needed, without having to worry abou the glitch. Once i had all the white/black weapons i went back to online mode :P

DarkCloud
18-05-2009, 10:06 PM

and... killed the demons at 1-1 in 2nd run with one or two hits?

Hello there

Please check out this guide for help with character build (not specific but you get an idea of what does what) and a walkthrough.

http://mycheats.1up.com/view/section/3169297/26173/demon_s_souls/ps3

On your question, if you use the Splinter of Keystone and go back to the Nexus nothing happens, world tendency will not change unless you die repeatedly (world becomes black) or you kill bosses/black phantoms (world becomes white)

DarkCloud
21-05-2009, 08:32 AM

nothing will happen to tendency right?

Hihihellobye
21-05-2009, 10:01 AM
If you suicide in the Nexus nothing will happen to any of the worlds

No, kill the bosses in your human form to get white tendency. Some people say it is easier to beat the bosses in soul form, this is not my experience, and you will be at a disadvantage as you will have less health and one less ring slot.

DarkCloud

Hihihellobye

Hey there.

I am writing the Latria guide but good you found the key...

If you mean that Freke`s apprentice is not around anymore, you should be careful: did you free Yurt in Latria? If you did, he will start killing NPCs in the Nexus, so you should go an kill him asap.

Edit: Blue Dragon

You will have a chance to kill it in 4-3

He will first block your path, you can just aim and shoot magic or arrows (get the white bow and soul arrow). He will fly away and block another passage. This time you have to run through with good timing not to get burnt, and then aim at his head from below him. It is a very slow process but hey... trophy.

Valey of Defilement 5-2 Vinland`s sister Selen appears in the swamp. Go to the first fog and start walking on the wooden ramp, then jump down when you are attacked by the first mosquito and find Selen in a small island somewhere nearby. (no map yet)

Hello again

Answers

Rydell: Yes you can save him and then change the world to pure black and fight him as a phantom. You can always do this in another playthrough as well

Mephistopheles: You can kill as many NPCs as you want to turn your character pure black, however you will not get the rewards from Mephistopheles if they are already dead. He will instead skip to the next target to give you an assignment.

Strength and attack: After you are at a certain level, your attributes start to take more and more levels to improve your attack, etc.

Below are the guidelines for a "naked" character. The attack power is also determined by your weapon, and sometimes the rings you wear. The reason why the Meat Cleaver is so strong, for example, is that it pumps up your stats.

Strength Attack Power
09 60
10 61
20 74
30 87
40 98
50 110
60 113
70 116
80 119
90 122
99 125

I started playing the game yesterday, so far I killed the boss of 1-1 and 1-2, i tried the boss of 2-1 too but didn't even get close to kill that one.

Anyways, I have a few noob questions...

I made a knight, which stats should i increase ? So far i've increased a bit of everything except faith and luck.

What am i supposed to do with the bosses souls ? I remember reading somewhere that you can get weapons or spells with them, but no idea how that works.

What do i need to use miracles and where can I get it ?

Well, that's all i can think of right now.

Hello there

The order in which I recommend to do the worlds is this:

1. The first boss that you should go to after Phalanx is Tower Knight, so that you get the spell "Total Protection" as soon as possible
2. After that you can grind in the Shrine of Storms, until you are strong enought to go to Latria. (You can get the Adjudicator soul to use in point 5)
3. Do 3-1 to free Freke and get the Soul Light spell
4. Do 2-1 and 2-2 to unlock strong upgrades at Blacksmith Ed with Flamelurker`s soul.
5. Get the Meat Cleaver
6. Then do the entirety of Valey of Defilement: Death cloud is Maiden Astraea`s spell, so you will need to complete to 5-3. However you can get by with regular spells in this levels: all you need are lots of healing items.
7. Now you can go anywhere in any order.

You will get a Wooden Catalyst from 1-2 that enables you to cast magic. You should go to the Nexus and look for the follower that can teach you magic, check out the maps and overall guide here

http://mycheats.1up.com/view/superguide/3169297/demon_s_souls/ps3

And the trophy guide here

http://mycheats.1up.com/view/faq/3169297/67857/demon_s_souls/ps3

The trophy guide has a table with all the uses of every Demon Soul, so it could be useful for you to print it and cross off what you have done so you can keep track.

On Knight: The best class of all, by far. I would recommend going for strength, stamina and magic, and add on dext etc as you go along. You will get a feeling of what you need as you go, but overall increasing your 3 bars and your strength is a good starting point. Faith can be left for later on and do not waste points on luck, it`s pretty much useless.

To use miracles you will need a talisman of God, you will find one before the first fog on 4-1 (check the map in the guide for location). You can then learn miracles from the Disciple of God in the Nexus.

Let me know if I can help with anything else :)

Tykain
10-06-2009, 09:32 AM
I already killed phalanx, then the tower knight and then 3-1 boss (Forgot her name), and the big spider. so a bit late now to follow your recommended order :) and found the talisman while exploring 4-1.

Now i'm trying to kill 2-2 boss, but he kills me pretty fast. I looked on the net for a good strategy for him but all i found is how to exploit a glitch to kill him easily and i don't want to use that.
Maybe i should wear some light armor for him, i'm kinda slow and the boss is very fast so it's hard to avoid his attacks etc.

With the bosses souls, should i make weapons or spells with them ?

And is there no way to sell stuff ? I have load of stuff i don't need.

Hey there

No you cannot sell stuff. You can either leave it with Thomas or drop it around and it will disappear when you leave the area.

On the Boss souls... well if you want the platinum you will have to do both. There is a trick at the blacksmith (its on the trophy guide I linked) so that you can do less playthroughs, but you will have to organize yourself. There are some spells that you must have right away, like soul light and death cloud, but beyond that it is all mostly a matter of preference. You should also get the Meat Cleaver and Total protection right away!

On Flamelurker, if you get the Soul Light spell, you can take him down with magic and evasion without having him glitch. Mind you he has never glitched in my game so I have no idea how efficient it is, but he does get stuck on the carcasses so you can use those as partial shields.

Damn, too bad there is no way to sell stuff. I have so many things that i don't need...

I killed Flamelurker with melee, forgot to switch to lighter armor before going there so i did fight half naked lol, it was quite easy now that i could move fast enough to avoid his attacks.

I also killed the bosses in 2-3, 4-2, 4-3 and 5-1 , none were particularly hard but took me a while to figure out i needed to get the sword for 4-3 (I wish it had the same effect outside of that area btw!)

I got the meat cleaver as you said, it does a lot of damage but it's pretty slow. I also got Makoto, good sword too but need to wear regenerator's ring with it.

I got a player invading my world for the first time yesterday, it was kinda funny because he appeared right in front of me so he died instantly :P

Btw, what's the best way to farm stones (sharpstone, hardstone, etc) ? upgrading weapons is taking forever.

Hey there

Congrats on your progress! The bosses are not that hard, except ManEater whom I HATE. It is all about figuring out the right strategy... And yes the Meat Cleaver is slow, but you will get faster as you level up and have more stamina, and it is a very good weapon to take on black phantoms because it knocks enemies down. It is good to have a fast weapon and the Meat cleaver on the right hand, so you can alternate: stun the enemy with the fast weapon, then quickly take out the Meat Cleaver and deal great damage.

On upgrade stones, hardstone and sharpstone splinters can be farmed from the mini phalanx enemies in 1-1 and 1-2. you will get chunks out of geckos. Check the items section of the superguide it tells you what enemies drop what stones... some of them will take longer than others, and you might have a lot of trouble finding the cursed pure bladestone.

so... what do u think of the game? I am still laughing at the first edge preview of this game, they said it was a "devil may cry rip off" lol.

Tykain

DMC rip off ? lol, it's nothing like DMC at all.
So far i'm loving the game, it's better than I expected. definitely one of my favorite game this gen.

Btw, is there no level cap for the pvp ?
I invaded someone's world 3 times to check out how it plays, 1st time I hit the guy with a meat cleaver combo and his hp barely moved then he killed me with 1 hit.
2nd time I didn't even get to hit once, I got hit by some fire spell and I was dead.
3rd time was more balanced, we fought for a while but then I lost because of a silly mistake.

Oh and thanks again for the tips.

Hello there

Yes there are limitations in levels. They used to be 200 hundred levels but they have patched it to be 10 or 20 (I think) However you will find people who have cheated: they get to a high level, then glitch themselves to have luck-99 for example, and then can compete with people who are in fact 100 or 200 levels below (or more).

The original glitch is not available anymore, so now they can only do it by letting Allant use souls sucker on them, so it must be tedious... however some people seem determined to be unfair!

I completed my first playthrough (The end boss is the lamest boss in all of game history btw :p )
I didn't want to end it yet actually, but after killing the king I went to increase my level and she got me to the end game instead.
So i'll have to do all the farming in NG+. I already started on the new game, quickly went to kill Phalanx and it didn't really feel harder but then I went to Tower Knight and he killed me with 1 hit...
I'm "only" level 70 as the new game started much earlier than I planned, so I might have troubles with some bosses now.

Btw, what's the best bow in the game ? I'm using Lava bow atm, but it seems quite weak but that might be cause my dex isn't that high.
And is there any weapon worth upgrading with colorless souls ? I'm only using weapons from demon's souls, so don't know what to do with them.

Hey there.

Yes you are right the items will improve with pure black WT and LSoS

You can find many of the items you need on the map, there are chunks of mercurystone in Latria 3-1 and 3-2, etc

I cleared all of world 1, 2 and 4 on NG+ but now Maneater is giving me troubles, first time i killed him it was kinda easy but now in NG+ the first one takes a lot longer to kill and having 2 of them at the same time makes it a whole lot harder.

What strategy do you use on him ?

Hihihellobye
16-06-2009, 12:55 AM
Hello there

Maneater: I hate you! Actually he is not so tough... it is that darn platform, it is SO easy to fall from it.

My strategy is in the trophy guide in mycheats, but copying it here for your use with some extra info

You will need:

Total Protection
Death Cloud
Meat Cleaver + Black Turpentine
Soul Light
New Moon Grass/ Drak Moon Grass

This very annoying Demon
has two bodies, two healthbars and a very narrow arena, so it is likely
you will be killing yourself by falling off more often than him getting
you. It is best to have a phantom companion that can distract the
Demon: however you can do it on your own as wel. With a powerful protection spell on, use Soul Arrow when he is flying
and then move on to the circular area with the fire, use the pyre as a
shield against the Demon`s melee attacks, and spam Death Cloud whenever you can, it will eventually stun him. Apply Sticky White Stuff or Black Turpentine on
your weapon to attack him at close range, and aim to cut the tail first, this will stop the annoying flying attack!. Have full moon grass ready in
your inventory in case he pins you down!. The second Maneater comes out after a set time, so make sure to have inflicted plague and paralyzed the first body by then.

Some people use Firestorm on this Demon. However this means a lot of MP consumed and you will need really high magic.

Tykain
16-06-2009, 01:38 AM
I rarely fall off the platform, it's always his attacks that eventually hit me and get me killed. I only just reached soul level 100, maybe i'm under-leveled for him on NG+ ?
I didn't know you can cut his tail, i'll try that. And I use death cloud, but never seen him get stunned.
Isn't North Regalia better than Meat Cleaver ? I do more dmg with it at least.

Anyways thanks again for the tips, i'll try that tomorrow.

Man Eater is now easy :P
i am all the time in the middle of the way
Weapon i used: North Regalia + Pure Black Chara Tendency
and Total Protection

i use the weapon with 2 hands
i hit him one time with the strong attack (R2)
and than he attacks me, i rolling away with the circle button, and i hit him again, and i am rolling again away .... until he's dead

Hihihellobye
17-06-2009, 12:18 AM
Hey there. I copied from the guide and I always assume that people could have missed North Regalia because of not doing Doran or chosing another ending. So I always say Meat Cleaver because it is a very easy weapon to get even in your first game.

Regarding damage, North Regalia does do a lot of damage but it does not have the boosts, reach or knockdown effect of Meat Cleaver, which makes the cleaver a bit of an easier approach for some bosses.

Tykain
17-06-2009, 02:56 AM
The North Regalia gets no additional dmg bonus from stats, right ? So after a certain point the meat cleaver should do more dmg, or does the North Regalia still do more dmg even with maxed stats ?

I haven't got to try Maneater again yet as i've been playing Sacred 2, but will try it again tomorrow or so and start farming all the stones I need for the trophies.

Hihihellobye
17-06-2009, 04:34 AM
I have not checked this accurately so I cannot give you exact numbers, but I think the Meat Cleaver is better because of the bonuses. North Regalia has none, so the Meat Cleaver does eventually surpass it.

I think the point is: North Regalia is good for a pure good/bad character in a low level, Meat Cleaver is good for any character at higher levels.

I think my meat cleaver does about 520 damage right now. And also you can apply turpentine on the Meat Cleaver but not on N. Regalia, so that also adds to the damage you do.

While I may be a bit late in contributing here I have a few tips that I've learned through the game.

Never run if you aren't sure what you're running into.

Use a shield and and keep it raised.

Learn to use a mixture of ranged and melee. I'm not normally a bow user but it really is useful in this game, almost necessary.

Don't get mad if you die and lose X amount of souls. Be thankful that you have kept all your items...

Try not to panic if you are ambushed. Panic leads to mistakes and mistakes lead to the dark side, young padawan.... ahem.... I mean, death.

When you find a Crystal Gecko, kill it. If you clear out all nearby enemies then reload your game and kill it again for up to four times (dependant on how many bosses for that world you have killed).

Will probably think of more in the future. :)

A Thiefs Ring is arguably more useful than a Cling Ring...

Hihihellobye
30-07-2009, 03:08 AM
Lol. Actually those two were pretty much the two rings I wore most of the time until I started playing exclusively on body form, and then once you are over a certain level you don't really care if the enemies mob you, but for the first 2 playthroughs, those 2 are your best allies in a generalized way. :)

*If you have a Dark Silver Shield then I highly recommend it for world 3 - Tower Of Latria. It is very useful against Mind Flayers and the Maneaters.

*Speaking of which there is a tip to kill off the first Maneater before the second one spawns - totally safely! I didn't work this out but was told by someone else so I'm not claiming any credit for it but I do know that lots of people have trouble tracking two Maneaters. This is for them.
Do not activate the Maneater fog. (If this is your first playthrough then it is the fog after the long winding staircase after destroying the two chains holding the heart up. If in doubt then equip bow and enter first person view. If you can see a large gargoyle with green eyes and mouth then you have found the Maneater fog gate.)
Now equip your best bow and arrows. Move as close to the fog as possible and as far left as possible. Manually aim at the Maneater and fire away. Arrows will fly past the fog at this point and damage the Maneater without any chance of him being activated and attacking you. :)

Re: Maneater: Yes... that's cheating lol

It was supposed to be fixed in the patch instead the devs removed death cloud effect on it. silly.

On Latria, a good shield is always good. I have to ask, what's a Mind Flayer? And Maneaters? Are you talking about the octopus guards and the gargoyles? (to be honest I play the JP version so I don't know how the translations ended up)

Lolz. I say Maneaters because there are two of them (3-2 boss) but I suppose it should really just be Maneater.
And the Mind Flayers (sometimes known as Brain Slayers) are the octopus headed guards.

I'm guessing then that the Maneater trick of firing arrows though the fog will be patched sooner or later then. Shame. Still, I don't need to update the game, really, unless I go online. And I hope that they re-instate Death Cloud on bosses as well. They don't need to allow paralysis but it seems silly that a gradual damage spell works on most other enemies especially when Poison Cloud still works. I'm also a bit miffed that the Meat Cleaver lost a lot of power in the updates. That wasn't necessary either IMO.

Ok a thing i am unsure about is that i heard if you get your faith to 20 before buying any faith spells you get a pure faintstone is it worth it? and how hard are they to get otherwise?

Hihihellobye

Pure Faintstone is rather difficult to come by!

But worry not, you can get it on your second playthrough, when you will have faith 20 for sure. You need to have faith over 20 and talk to the female follower of Saint Urbain before you rescue him.

Really? I have about three of them going spare that I will never use. Already used three up until now. A blessed Mace and a Blessed Great Sword. The bigger the weapon the more stones will be needed to upgrade it.

Lol lucky you! But overall it is not the most common stone, and many people will prefer not to farm, so getting it from the gal is probably the easiest way. :)

Why is 2.5 playthroughs required atleast for platinum? I only saw one trophy that mentions beating the game. How many playthroughs would it require if your friend gave you all things you need or have to find?
Thanks and if I grinded out online to get my level higher, would that make the game alot easier to beat? The higher your level the easier it is?:S

Not necessarily. Yes you have a lot more life but instead of one hit killing you the enemies are now going to leave you with a pixel or two of health and gasping for endurance. If you're lucky you may be able to evade them - if not they'll clobber you a second time and finish you off. Oh and don't forget that falling off a platform really has nothing to do with stats!
Once you have a some experience of the levels then you will be more prepared for what you know you will face and change your strategies accordingly. Thus I'd say experience of the game makes the game easier than high stats.

After beating every boss you will receive their soul. Now these unique souls are special and can be used for several things like learning magic or upgrading a weapon. The trouble is that some boss souls have more than one use (up to four uses in fact) and once it has been used in a playthrough then it is gone from your inventory. The next time you get one will be on the next playthrough.
I do not know if someone you play with can drop a boss soul for you though.

Unfortunately he is one of those "well if I got it that way then so can you, don't be lazy" kinda guy... Amazing gaming skills but a bit of a snob. Anyway have you tried posting a thread in Gamefaqs? People ask/give pure bladestone quite often or the upgraded weapon.

2.5 Playthroughs: As Samsengir said, you need boss souls to buy magics, miracles and weapons, and you have to get them multiple times to be able to buy anything. Also you will need to do the good and bad endings to obtain certain weapons. The real time it would take is 4 playthroughs, but you can "Cheat" with the blacksmith and reduce it to 3.

Cheating beyond that, as in getting all that you need from other people, would actually be the equivalent of having given someone your controller, let them play your game, and then want credit for the platinum that they took: pretty pointless. So it might be possible but I would not do it.

Another tip:

Regarding the itemised souls you can pick up eg Legendary Hero's Soul, Veteran Soldiers Soul etc. Do not use these up straight away. Keep them in your inventory. They are weightless so you will always be able to pick them up.
Use them only when you have to. Say you died in the middle of a level and you've run out of supplies and your weapon is broken. What you gonna do? You can't exactly trudge through the level to get to your bloodstain very easily and you have no souls to buy/repair in the Nexus. This is where those item souls come in real handy. Consume a few and buy/repair what you need and go look for your bloodstain feeling fully refreshed.
Similarly when you go to 2-1 to upgrade weapons and you've saved all the upgrades into one visit it is much more convenient to use an item soul or two to finish off your upgrades.
Using them for the Maiden In Black can be okay at the beginning of the game but you will quickly find that even consuming all of the item souls you still won't be able to afford a Soul Level.
